Dundrum GFC Notes
* All Senior and Reserve players should have their registration forms completed and membership paid no later than 7.30pm on Friday the 4th of March. Failure to do so will mean that players will be ineligible to play in the up coming Senior friendlies.
* Senior training has been coming on well since November and the team will face their first opposition against Carryduff at home this Sunday. Arrangements for the match will be made available to the players on Friday night. As usual training will take place on the field this Wednesday night at 7.30pm and at the same time and venue on Friday night.
* The Reserves played their first challenge game of the year against Aughlisnafin on Sunday afternoon. In what was a total team effort the home side ran out comfortable winners. The final score: Dundrum II's 4-12 Aughlisnafin 1-04. There were some notable performances in the game. Colm Morgan was inspirational at centre half back and managed to score his first point in a decade. Kieran Byrne also looked dangerous as he helped himself to two goals and three points from play.
Dundrum: D.Campbell, M.Rooney, D.McGrattan, S.McGrattan, J.McKibben, C.Morgan (0-01), P.Byrne, M.Fitzsimons (0-02), J.Hurley (1-00), G.Graham (1-00), P.Doran, C.Venney (0-03), J.Forsythe, K.Byrne (2-03), C.McShane (0-01). Subs: T.Connolly, J.Kennedy, D.Rodgers,
M.Melville (0-02).
* The Minors made it two wins out of two in their section of the league. The final score: Dundrum 4-13 Bredagh 1-05. See match report.
* U-16 training starts at 7.30pm sharp on Tuesday the 8th of March in Dundrum. All prospective U-16 and U-14 players who wish to play are asked to be present for registration and an introduction session followed by training. This year the team is playing under the Ballykinlar name and will be managed by John Boden, Mark Fitzsimons, Cormac Venney and Donal Smith.
* Congratulations to Senior team coach John Morgan on being appointed to the Down Minor team management setup for the incoming year.
* U-12 training continues on Friday nights in the Parochial Hall starting at 6.30pm.
* With the clubs radical new coaching structure now in it's first year there has been a real drive to get the club's coaches qualified. Last week in Ardglass a number of members completed their Foundation Level Coaching course. This means that at all levels from U-12 through to Minor, Dundrum has coaches qualified from Foundation to Level One. Adding on to this is the fact that most of the coaches have Child Protection and First Aid qualifications.
The previous day five delegates from the club attended the inaugaral Down Coaching Conference in the Burrendale Hotel which turned out to be a huge success. Colm Morgan (Minors), Mark Fitzsimons (U-16's), Cormac Venney (U-16's), John McShane (Senior team manager/Down U-16 Development Squad) and John Morgan (Down Minor team management/Senior team coach) were all in attendance.
