Connolly Cup
Quarter Final: Dundrum 2-03
Teconnaught 0-05
A makeshift
Dundrum side perservered to
overcome a strong Teconnaught unit
in a very entertaining match at
Ballykinlar on Tuesday night.
Trailing by the
minimum at the break Dundrum upped
the ante and hit two second half
goals to send Sandy O'Prey's men
crashing out of the cup.
The Annacloy
side looked the stronger in the
opening exchanges, scoring the
first point in the process.
However, after a couple of wides
Paul Rooney settled Dundrum with
his first score in Senior
football. Three wides folllowed
from the Duns before Teconnaught
registered their second.
Chris Hogg got
Dundrum back on level with 22
minutes gone on the clock. This
score came shortly after Marty
Coughlan hit the bar after some
great build up play from Paul
Rooney and Mark Fitzsimons.
As the half
petered out Hogg grabbed his
second. Dundrum had a goal chance
just before this but Paul Rooney's
effort flew inches wide.
Teconnaught finished strongly and
converted two chances to put
themselves in the lead at the
break.
Dundrum's
superior work ethic and fitness
rates showed in the second half as
goals from Chris Hogg and Kieran
Byrne outweighed Teconnaught's
solitary point. Hogg brilliantly
crashed home a penalty after
starman Marty Coughlan was hauled
down in the square. Byrne's major
was a superb move that began with
Doyle, filtered through Coughlan
and ended with a cool finish from
the left half forward.
The second
string of Loughinisland await
Dundrum in the semi finals next
Monday night. This is sure to be
tight game. If Colm Morgan can
manage to marshal the full back
line and if Cathal Kielty and
Aaron Doyle can gain the upperhand
at midfield then there is no
reason why the Duns can't succeed.
