Dundrum 0-10
Ardglass 1-17
The gulf in
class between Dundrum and Ardglass
was very evident in a mainly one
sided Connolly Cup final showdown
at Ballykinlar.
After a
pulsating first half Ardglass
looked home and dry at the
interval, carrying an eight point
lead. Chris Deegans (0-03), Mick
Magee (0-03), P.Smyth (0-02),
L.Mullan (0-02), Clifford Connor
(0-01) and Chris Taggart (0-01)
all registered scores. This was a
great return compared to Dundrum's
0-04 which saw Kieran Walsh
(0-02), Chris Hogg (0-01) and
Johnny McMullan (0-01) all
convert.
Ardglass made
the most of their opportunities in
this period, taking some superb
scores in the process. Dundrum
were overworked and found it
difficult to impose themselves.
Midway through Aaron Doyle hit the
post but apart from that it was
all Ardglass.
The second half
saw the Duns counter Ardglass'
dominance to an extent.Two
excellent efforts from Marty
Melville and a hat trick of points
from Kieran Walsh was added to by
a Chris Hogg free. But
an tremendous goal from Paul Smyth
put paid to any hint of a Dundrum
comeback.
Player of the
Tournament Stephen Smyth, Liam
Mullan, Chris Deegans and Matthew
Rooney were to the fore in the
latter stages as Paul O'Shea's men
retained the cup in stylish
fashion.

St Pauls 1-11 Dundrum
0-14
A goal with the
last kick of the game grabbed St
Pauls a somewhat fortunate draw in
a scrappy Division 4 encounter in
Holywood.
The three
pointer came right at the death
and denied a resurgent Dundrum a
much needed two points.
Dundrum enjoyed
early dominance around the middle
and this layed the platform for
scores from Conor McShane, Kieran
Walsh and Cathal Kielty. St Pauls
hit back through a Eunan Donnelly
free and a great score from
midfielder Brian McIllroy. Kieran
Walsh reasserted Dundrum's early
stranglehold with a well
taken angled strike but St Pauls
got back on top, knocking over two
frees in succession to leave the
scores at four points apeice after
twenty minutes.
Dundrum
regained the lead shortly after
when Kieran Walsh pointed a free.
However, it was a strong finish to
the half from the homeside which
saw them go in at the break with a
three point lead.
Dundrum
dominated the second half. The
full forward line got a lot of
change out of the St Paul's full
back line and this give the Duns
the confidence to
attack.Substitute Neil McLaughlin
came off the bench and knocked
over two inspirational early
scores. Full forward Paddy Doran
followed this up with his first of
the night and Cathal Kielty added
to this with a long range effort
to give Dundrum a slender one
point lead.
St Pauls hit
back on forty five minutes to
level the game but a further four
consecutive efforts from the away
side saw St Pauls on the back foot
again. Kieran Walsh crashed over
three of these and veteran corner
forward Marty Coughlan latched on
with a great score to put the Duns
in control once again.
As both teams
began to tire in the searing heat,
St Pauls managed to find some
energy in reserve as they marauded
forward, scoring two points in the
process. However, their efforts
seemed to be in vain as Paddy
Doran fisted over the bar for the
Duns on the hour.
Yet like many
Dundrum games in the past, the
away team got panicky at the back
and this led to St Pauls bundling
in a late goal which in truth they
scarcely deserved.
With the
promotion race starting to hot up,
Dundrum will feel that they have
missed an opportunity to get back
in to the shakeup. St Pauls were
lucky to get a point and with
big matches coming thick and fast
for them in the coming weeks they
will need to be on top of their
game.
