Dundrum Notes - 29th June 2005

By Marc Mac Siomoin [marc_mac_siomoin@yahoo.co.uk]

Dundrum GFC Club Notes

* Following on from the terryfying events that occurred this past Thursday in the ACFL Division 4 game against St Michaels, Cormac Venney, Aaron Doyle and their families would like to thank all those people who have supported them over the past couple of days.

Those singled out for specific mention are Anne Coughlan, Paula Kearney and Mrs Tumelty who were the off duty nurses that attended to both players at the scene after they were assaulted. Cormac and Aaron would also like to thank the paramedics, all those who accompanied them in the ambulances, Fr McKenna for his prayers during Friday night's novena and those people who followed them to the Downe. Cormac would also like to extend his thanks to those who visited him in the Royal over the course of the weekend. Both lads were also grateful to those members of the club and friends who visited their homes.

* Forgetting the disgraceful scenes which occurred at the end of the game with St Michaels, the Senior team can be extremely proud of their win. All twenty players can be really pleased with the win and the way they stuck up for each other. St Michaels were previously unbeaten and this result has opened up the League. The final scoreline: Dundrum 2-10 St Michaels 1-10.

* The Senior game with St Johns has been switched to the 4th of July with a 7.30pm throw in at Dundrum. Training will take place tonight (Wednesday) beginning at 7.30pm sharp.

* The Reserves went down to their first League defeat of the season when they succumbed to Drumaness on a scoreline of 3-15 to 2-11. In what was a very entertaining game, it was the accuracy of the Drumaness forwards in the second half that proved decisive. The Duns had great performances from Martin McKibben, John McKibben, Colm Morgan, Stephen McGrattan and Neil McLoughlin.

Dundrum team and scorers: D.Campbell, P.Byrne, D.McGrattan, M.McKibbin, M.Rooney, C.Morgan, B.Cunningham, J.Hurley (0-01), J.McKibben (1-00), G.Graham, N.McLaughlin (0-02), K.Byrne (0-01), S.McGrattan (0-03), B.Walsh (0-01), C.Hogg (0-03). Subs: M.Melville, M.Fitzsimons, P.Rooney, S.Kavanagh (1-00), M.Walsh

* Over the past fortnight the Minors have had two of their fixtures cancelled. Drumaness failed to field in the League while Kilclief conceded their Championship match. Therefore the Minors have finished 3rd in their section of the League while they are now in to the last eight of the B Championship.

* Good luck to John Morgan and Paul McComiskey for Friday night when the Down Minors meet Cavan in the Ulster Championship Semi Final at Crossmaglen (Throw in time- 7.30pm). A win in this game would see Down through to an Ulster Final against Armagh in Croke Park on the 10th of July.

* The U-16's took on Liatroim last night (Tuesday) in their penultimate League match. A full report will be available next week.

* The U-12's played magnificently against Ardglass on Sunday but unfortunately went down on a scoreline of 5-09 to 3-05.
