Despite trailing by a
point at halftime, Dundrum came back in
style in the 2nd period to overcome a
misfiring Drumaness unit in a hardfought
Division 3 encounter.
The away side won the
toss and elected to play with the strong
breeze. They persisted in shooting from
distance in the 1st half but this
yielded no scores from play. The
Drumaness halftime total of six points
came from five Neil McAleenan frees and
one from Mark Donnelly.
The Duns had to work
very hard against the piercing wind. The
half forwards had to drop back and
defend for most of the 1st half to try
to cut out the Drumaness attack.
However, a wonderful driving shot from
Aaron Doyle opened the homeside's
account and another three from play from
Paul McComiskey kept the Duns in touch.
Near halftime Kieran Walsh put over a
free to keep a solitary point in it at
the break.
Dundrum dominated the
2nd half. Drumaness ran out of steam
when playing against the wind. Their
misfortune continued when Willie Megoran
saw red.
Kieran Walsh and
Chris Hogg converted early chances
before Paul McComiskey came into his own
with two breathtaking long range scores.
Midway through Chris
Hogg put the game to bed with an
excellent goal. Hogg got on the end of a
superb pass from Conor McShane and
dispatched to the net to leave six
points in it.
By this stage it was
evident that Dundrum were working a lot
harder than Drumaness. This was reaping
rewards as McComiskey and Hogg added
another two scores.
Drumaness freetaker
Neil McAleenan sliced over a late free
but the last score of the game came
courtesy of Dundrum's Cormac Venney who
put his effort over the bar despite a
goal chance being on. Dundrum's Cathal
Kielty received a second yellow near the
death.
The wind was always
going to be a big factor in deciding the
outcome of this game. Drumaness didn't
utilise it enough in the 1st half and
they payed for it. Dundrum worked their
socks off in the 2nd half and they in
turn must receive the plaudits for a
hard earned win.
