Dundrum's
Paul McComiskey, John McKibben
and Cormac Venney combined
magnificently throughout the 60
minutes to send Mitchels packing
in a high scoring thriller.
McComiskey
bagged 1-10, Venney lobbed over
0-04 and McKibben converted 1-02
as an overan Mitchels defence
was torn apart at the seams.
Ironically
enough it was Mitchels who were
in the driving seat at half
time. Two goals late in the 1st
half from their targetman full
forward saw them garner a lead
which they scarely deserved.
Dundrum were
at times very wasteful and
really should have been leading.
The pick of their scores was an
excellent netbuster from
McKibben and a couple of long
range efforts from Venney.
The 2nd half
saw the stakes raised and it was
the mighty Duns who brought the
game to a new level. An early
goal from McComiskey saw his
side regain the lead and after
this they never looked back. The
scores flowed with a further
eight points coming from the
homesters. Some nice finishing
was applied in these instances
from the livewire Declan
Kavanagh and the impressive
substitute Stephen McGrattan.
In all
fairness though to Mitchels they
never give up and they plugged
away to the death. Their fitness
levels may have let them down a
bit but they did grab a late
goal to end up with an excellent
total of 3-11. Any other day
this probably would have been
enough to secure the two points
but unfortunately for the Newry
men it wasnt to be.
Dundrum have
four games left in their League
campaign. Realistically they
will have to win all four to
stand any chance of reaching the
playoffs. However, if Martin
Melville, Marc
Cunningham, Jonathan McMullan,
Aaron Doyle and the forward unit
can keep up their current form
then anything is possible.
Mitchels have
a couple of games in hand but
they will need Stephen Kearney
back to his lethal best if they
are make up ground on the top
four.
