* Good luck to Marc
Cunningham, Paul McComiskey and John
Morgan (Coach) for this Sunday when
the Down Minors take on Cavan at
Casement Park in the Preliminary Round
of the Ulster Minor Football
Championship.
* The Seniors will
face Teconnaught at home this Friday
in the League. Throw-in is at 7.15pm.
Training will take place tonight
(Wednesday) at 7pm sharp. Belfast
players should meet for the bus at 6pm
outside the Parlour.
* The Reserves
match with Bredagh was cancelled on
Sunday evening due to the death of
Martin Walsh's mother. All at the club
would like to offer Martin their
deepest sympathies on his recent loss.
There will be no
Reserve game this Sunday due to the
Down matches.
* The Minors lost
to Drumaness by a point last Wednesday
in Section B. They still have League
fixtures to fulfil against Bredagh and
St Johns.
In the Minor
Football Championship the lads have
drawn a home tie with Downpatrick.
* The U-16's made
it two wins out of two last week when
they defeated Ardglass by a point.
Last night (Tuesday) they took on
Kilclief in the Preliminary Round of
the A Championship. A report will be
available next week.
This coming Tuesday
the side visit Killyleagh for their
third League game.
* The U-14's also
made it two wins on the trot when they
dismantled Teconnaught 4-16 to 0-05.
This Thursday they face a tricky home
tie against Carryduff B.
East Down U-16
Football League Section B
Dundrum 2-14
Ardglass 3-10
In an excellent
advertisement for underage football in
the county, Dundrum battled past an
excellent Ardglass side to pick up the
points in a close affair.
This game
produced all that is good and
productive in the GAA. It had superb
refereeing, healthy sportsmanship and
some terrific patches of play but it
was the Duns who just about edged it
in the dying moments.
The first half
saw Ardglass playing with a strong
wind advantage. After ten minutes of
play they cancelled out Dundrum's
Conal McKee (0-02) and Sean O'Rourke's
(0-01) efforts with a goal.
McKee fought
back to put the Duns in front again
but Ardglass hit back with another
goal to set up a two point lead.
Dangerman McKee
then swapped scores with Shea Lappin
before Paul O'Shea's men kicked over
two on the go to extend their lead to
four.
With halftime
approaching Dundrum's Sean O'Rourke
and Blaine Warnock converted
opportunities either side of Malachy
Crangle's point to keep the Duns
within three points of the visitors.
The second half
was a joy to behold. Both teams played
some brilliant football and as the
wind died down the quality of the
game picked up.
Dundrum raced
out of the blocks at a frenetic pace.
Sean O'Rourke was instrumental in this
comeback as he fired over four scores
in succession to put his side in the
lead for the first time since early in
the first half. Dean Killen then
latched on with an awe inspiring long
range effort to put Ardglass on the
backfoot.
However, the
Ardtole side picked themselves up and
began to show that indominatable
spirit that has characterised many an
Ardglass team over the years. They
bounced back in style to register 1-04
without reply to send themselves in to
a five point lead.
By this stage
Ardglass looked that they would run
away with it. However, the Duns
regrouped and Blaine Warnock found
himself in the right place at the
right time as he stabbed home a goal.
Conal McKee quickly followed this up
with another glorious point but
Ardglass stopped the Duns in their
tracks shortly after with a fine
score.
With the game
really heating up it took a moment of
magic from Sean O'Rourke to turn the
tie once again. The young terrier tore
through the Ardglass centre line and
rifled his shot to the net to put the
homeside in charge once again by a
solitary point.
Then with a
minute remaining Ardglass made a
beeline for the Dundrum goal. However,
a point was all that they could muster
and the game once again levelled it
self out.
At this stage it
looked as if a draw would be a fair
result. Yet the Duns weren't prepared
to settle for just that. For the
second time in a week ace marksman
Conal McKee grabbed a last ditch
winner to secure another win at the
death for the Duns.
