Dundrum 1-09 Teconnaught 2-09
Dundrum lost their second consecutive
game after putting in a woeful
performance at home to Teconnaught on
Saturday night. Playing against the
breeze in the first half, Dundrum got
off to a great start thanks to a Kieran
Walsh free and a Cormac Venney effort.
However, Dundrum failed to build on this
lead as Teconnaught rattled off six
successive scores, including a Conor
Brennan goal after dreadful defending in
the Dundrum defence. During this period
of Teconnaught dominance, Dundrum
suffered a massive blow when the
influential Martin Coughlin was forced
off with what appeared to be a hamstring
injury.
Dundrum fought back from this blow with
a second Walsh free. This was followed
by the move of the game, when Venney and
Walsh combined with two sublime balls to
set the ageless Paddy Doran up for a
goal. However, Conor Brennan scored a
second goal for the visitors when
netting a rebound after a good save by
Colm King. This left the half time
scores 1-3 to 2-5.
Dundrum again got a great start to the
half when they scored via a Chris Hogg
free and another Venney point to leave a
goal between the teams. Doran, Doyle and
Walsh then exchanged points with Brennan
and Barry Rogan to leave just two
between the sides. Despite a period of
Dundrum pressure when Doran had a
goalbound effort blocked on the line,
Teconnaught scored two points on the
counter attack. The second a sweet
effort from substitute Conor Heath.
Dundrum could only muster a solitary
point in reply from substitute Paul
Rooney, to leave the final score 1-9 to
2-9.
Dundrum have only themselves to blame
for this loss having kicked some bad
wides in both halves. Few players played
anywhere near their potential but Cormac
Venney had a good game in the forward
line, while substitutes Mark Cunningham
and Paul Rooney showed well when
introduced. Dundrum will need to get
their act together quickly to avoid
getting pulled into the relegation zone.
If Teconnaught keep this form up they
are capable of at least a mid-table
finish. Best for the visitors were Sammy
Madine who had a fine game at full back,
David McGreevy at half back and Dee
Mulholland in midfield. Most impressive
up front were Ross McLeigh and Conor
Brennan.
