When Bosco
went three
points to
no score
up in the
first four
minutes of
this game,
Dundrum
must have
thought
that they
were in
for a
hiding.
However,
certain
incidents
during
football
matches
can change
the course
of a game.
The
incident
in
question
was an
aerial
defying
penalty
save by
Dundrum
keeper
Colm King
from a
Bosco spot
kick after
five
minutes of
play. The
penalty
save gave
Dundrum
renewed
hope and
from this
moment on
they never
looked
back as
they
powered
their way
to an
eight
point
victory.
The
re-invigoration
in
Dundrum's
ranks
began in
the best
possible
manner. A
quick free
from Paul
McComiskey
gravitated
it's way
in to
Cormac
Venney's
hands in
the full
forward
line.
Venney
made a
splendid
catch and
when faced
with the
prospect
of Andy
Coleman in
the Bosco
net,
Venney
made no
mistake
and
quickly
restored
parity.
This goal
was an
instant
reply to
Bosco's
0-03 and
left the
game level
after
eight
minutes of
play.
The Duns
followed
up their
major with
three
scores on
the trot.
Aaron
Doyle's
probing
run
forward
was
rewarded
with a
fine point
while
Conor
McShane
and Chris
Hogg also
got in on
the act
with a
point
apeice.
Bosco
replied
with a
Neil
Tumilty
free which
was
incidentally
his third
free of
the night.
Yet the
Newry men
looked
stunned
and seemed
to be
clueless
as to the
way
forward
for
themselves.
Dundrum
went on to
finish the
half in
style.
Venney
added a
point to
his goal
while
Conor
McShane
bagged his
second of
the night.
The
profilic
Paul
McComiskey
then
popped up
with a
double
before
Bosco's
Marty
Duggan
brought
proceedings
to a close
with a
fine
effort to
leave
Dundrum in
control by
five
points at
the break.
As
expected
Bosco came
out all
guns
blazing in
the 2nd
half.
Collie
Keenan and
Neil
Tumilty
pointed a
free
apeice
which
narrowed
Dundrum's
lead to
three.
However,
Paul
McComiskey
got the
Duns
firing on
all
cylinders
soon after
when he
glanced
over a
free.
McComiskey
was to the
fore
again a
minute
later when
he played
a sublime
long range
pass in to
the
awaiting
Cormac
Venney.
The
in-form
Venney
made easy
work of
evading
his marker
Francie
Boyle
before
un-selfishly
offloading
the ball
to the
incoming
Chris
Hogg. Hogg
lived up
to his
nickname
'Kicker'
as he
slammed
the ball
to the
Bosco net
to gave
the Duns
an
unassailable
seven
point
lead.
After the
goal Bosco
caught the
Duns on
the bounce
as Neil
Conlon
pointed
but
McComiskey
was in
bullish
mood and
replied
instantly
with two
real gems
to restore
Dundrum's
seven
point
lead.
As the
game
closed out
Dundrum
began to
use the
ball more
wisely and
opted to
maintain
possession
at every
instance.
McComiskey
and
Tumilty
swopped
scores on
no less
than two
occasions
as Dundrum
completed
their
scoring
with a
2-12
total.
Tumilty's
two frees
meant that
Bosco
ended up
with 0-10.
In the
final
minute
Dundrum
nearly
landed
their
third goal
of the
night.
McComiskey
once again
delivered
a killer
ball in to
the Bosco
defence.
Substitute
Declan
Kavanagh
pounced on
it
immediately
but his
placed
shot
screamed
just wide
off the
posts and
Dundrum's
hopes of
a perfect
ending
were
diminished.
Bosco came
in to this
game with
a 100%
record but
in the end
they had
no answer
to
Dundrum's
slick,
fast
moving
forward
line. All
six of the
Dun's
attackers
were in
fine form
and they
were
continually
reassured
by the
competence
of their
defence
and the
superb
performances
of Aaron
Doyle and
John
Hurley in
midfield.
