Dundrum Notes: Jan 14th 2007

* The club held it's re-convened AGM on Sunday evening in the Parish Community Centre. One of the largest turnouts of members in recent years witnessed the ushering in of a new look committee for 2007.

Former player and dedicated clubman Ollie Forsythe has taken over the Chairman role from Micheal Rodgers. Micheal held the post for the past four years and in that time he has worked extremely hard to ensure that all aspects of the club were not found wanting. During his time in office he has overseen and directed many changes within the club and his time and effort with the role has been very much appreciated by each and every member.

Ollie will be assisted by Vice-Chairman Paul Byrne who has held this role for the past three years. With four former chairmen in the committee, namely Eddie Campbell, Seamus Walsh, Liam McKibben and Micheal Rodgers, both Ollie and Paul will be very ably supported in their new positions.

Current Senior team player John McKibben has taken over the Secretary's job from the outgoing Peter McVerry. Peter was new to the club last year and he completed his term as Secretary with great efficency. His work in 2006 was greatly valued. Incidentally, John becomes the second youngest ever Secretary in the club. Back in the mid 80's Patrick Kielty held the position at the age of sixteen. John, who is now twenty, brings a more youthful look to the administration setup.

John will have another newcomer to the committee arena, Colm Magee, as his Assistant-Secretary. Colm, who is the club's referee, has previous experience on the Dundrum Village Committee.

Kieran McKibben was elected unapposed as Treasurer as was Gerry McMullan who takes up the Assistant-Treasurer post. For the second year running Eamon Hogg was elected Youth Officer while Marcas MacSiomoin was appointed PRO for the fourth year in a row. Martin Coughlan has taken up the Cultural Officer's position. Martin hopes to revive Dundrum's participation in Scor activities which has waned in previous years. Club stalwart Kieran McKibben filled the remaining two posts namely Safety Officer and County Delegate.

Apart from the club officer positions there are an additional fifteen members of the committee. These include Senior team manager John McShane, Senior team players Kieran Walsh and Conor McKibbin, Reserve team members David Campbell, Martin Walsh, Paddy Doran and Barry Walsh, former chairmen Micheal Rodgers, Liam McKibben and Seamus Walsh, former Secretary Peter McVerry, Gerry Morgan and Phelim Shields. The two remaining additional members are the returning Eddie Campbell and newcomer Martin McVeigh. Eddie was heavily involved with the club in the early 90's and Martin is new to the village. Both are very welcome to the new setup.

These additional fifteen members will be co-opted on to the new sub-committees that will be devised at the first committee meeting of the year. A date for this meeting will appear in next week's club notes.

* The U-21's took on East Down 'A' champions and All-County runners-up Kilcoo in a challenge game at Annsborough on Sunday. Despite being beaten, this game proved to be a very useful learning curve for those involved. It showed the Naomh Seosamh lads the step-up in class that is required for when they take on An Riocht in the All-County 'B' Final that is set to take place on Sunday the 28th (provisional).

All involved with Naomh Seosamh would like to thank Gabriel Tumelty (Bright) for refereeing the game and Kilcoo for particpating in the fixture despite their U-21 campaign finishing three weeks ago. The Kilcoo players were a credit to their club and their style of play was a joy to watch. Also, a thanks goes to Kilcoo manager Gerry Laverty for his words of advice and encouragement after the game.

There will be three training sessions for the U-21's this week. They will take place in Ballykinlar at 7.30pm on Wednesday and Friday and at 11am on Sunday. The following panel of 25 players is requested to attend in preparation for the Final:

Aughlisnafin: B.Quinn, S.Willoughby

Ballykinlar: M.Smith, B.Mageean, G.Grant, H.Robb, A.Robb, M.Robb, J.Hanna

Dundrum: C.King, K.McShane, M.Rooney, N.McComiskey, A.Doyle, J.McKibben, M.Melville, M.Fitzsimons, D.Murphy, P.Rooney, R.Fitzsimons, P.McComiskey, M.Cunningham, C.Hogg, D.Kavanagh, C.McShane

* The Senior team setup would like to welcome Eddie Campbell in to the fold. Eddie has been installed as Pre-Season fitness trainer. He was last involved with club's Senior setup during the early 90's when they were flying high at the top of Division 2. Martin Coughlan is the only remaining player in this year's team that played in the Division 2 campaign of that era.

* Paul McComiskey was once again involved with Queens in the McKenna Cup at the weekend. He came on twenty minutes from the end in the Uni's two point defeat to Cavan in Breffni Park.

* Declan Kavanagh was involved in St Colman's, Newry, victory over St Michael's, Enniskillen, in a friendly game on Saturday
