Down ACFL Division 3: Bosco 4-09  Dundrum 0-12

This game was a struggle from start to finish for a Dundrum team who have gone stale in the past couple of weeks. The Baysiders found it extremely difficult to cope with the direct running and awesome pace of a rejuvenated Bosco and in the end the Newry men were worth every bit of their nine point victory.

Despite a positive start to the 1st half the Duns suffered a collapse just before the half time whistle. Goals apeice from Bosco's Francie Downey and Kyle Brennan in the space of three minutes brought Mo Rooney's team back in to the frame. Brennan's major was especially eyecatching as he pranced through the Dundrum backline unchecked before unleashing a screamer in to Colm King's top corner.

Bosco's two goals give them the lead at halftime and it was an advantage that they were not for giving up. They started the 2nd half in whirlwind fashion with a another well taken goal coming from Chris Duggan. Further points from Brennan, Mulvaney and Murtagh really sucked the zeal out of Dundrum as they were forced to operate more defensively rather than push forward for attacks.

Scores for the away side did come in intermittent periods throught the likes of Chris Hogg and Kieran Walsh but Bosco always looked the more threatening. A fourth goal in the last ten minutes from man of the match Francie Downey ended the game as a contest and despite a late Dundrum comeback, Bosco always looked comfortable winners.

The homesters victory was based on a very solid defensive performance. Andy Coleman was superb between the sticks and he pulled off two great saves to deny Paul McComiskey and Declan Kavanagh goals in the 2nd half. Gavin Moan, Ciaran Murtagh, Ryan Lynch and Kyle Brennan also played well within themselves in a very functional unit. The deceivingly mobile Marty Duggan impressed at midfield and his hard won possession was used most effectively in the forward line by Neil Mullen, Chris Duggan, Francie Downey and Niall Mulvaney.

Dundrum struggled with their defensive duties in this game and on too many occasions they let Bosco run straight through them. Aaron Doyle and Kieran Walsh were off the pace in midfield and they will need more help around the middle in the coming weeks. In the forwards Martin Coughlan worked his socks off with Chris Hogg also showing well with 0-03 from play.

Bosco are just peaking at the right time and they can now make a serious go at obtaining a playoff place. Dundrum need to re-shuffle their pack and mix things up a little if they are to emerge from their recent slump.
