Dundrum Notes: March 25th 2007

* The Seniors played their second friendly of the year on Sunday in Dundrum when they took on Armagh Division 4 side Eire Og. In what was a very entertaining game the Duns ran out convincing winners on a 1-14 to 0-07 scoreline. Most impressive for the homeside were Philip Shields, Jonathan McMullan, Aaron Doyle and Cormac Venney.

* This Sunday the Seniors will travel to Collegeland in Armagh for their third friendly of the year against the local O'Rahilly's side. The throw-in time and travel arrangements will be made available to the players on Friday night at training. There will also be a training session tonight (Wednesday) at 7.30pm.

* After the Senior game on Sunday past the Reserves under new manager Martin Coughlan lined out against Eire Og's second string. In what was a very close game the Craigavon lads emerged victors by one point on a 3-06 to 0-14 scoreline. This match saw the return of Peter King, Paul Smyth, Philip McGrattan, Paddy Forsythe and Mickey Murray to the fold. All our very welcome back to the setup.

* Best wishes go to Senior players Marc Cunningham, Declan Kavanagh and Kieran Walsh who are currently out injured.

* Thanks once more to our own Colly Magee for refereeing both games. Again another thanks goes to the ladies for organising the tea and sandwiches after the game in the Community Centre. Eire Og would also like to pass on their gratitude to the club for the hospitality they received on their visit.

* The Minors and U-16's will now train together on Thursday evenings. All Dundrum players should meet at the clubhouse for 6.30pm.

* The U-14's continue to train on a Monday night in Ballykinlar with a 7.30pm start.

* U-12, U-10 and U-8 training continues to gather pace on a Friday night. Sessions start at 6pm.

* Commiserations to Paul McComiskey and the rest of the Down U-21's who surprisingly crashed out of the Championship at the hands of Fermanagh on Saturday. Paul grabbed himself five points but in the end the Ernemen deserved their victory after a period of extra time.

* Hard luck as well to Donal Brennan (Dundrum) and Stefan Mason (Ballykinlar) who were part of the Red High Loch In Iuir team who lost out to St Columbs, Derry, in the Final on Saturday.

Notes from 18th March 2007

* The Seniors played their first Challenge game of the season at home to Division 2 side Glasdrumman on Sunday afternoon. The game was played in atrocious conditions but it was Glasdrumman who made the most of their chances. They held a 4-04 to 0-05 lead at the break and at the end they were convincing winners on a 6-06 to 0-08 scoreline. Thanks to Dundrum's Colly Magee for refereeing the game. He done an excellent job in what was his first game in charge at Senior level. Thanks also goes to the ladies who organised the tea and sandwiches after the game in the Community Hall. It was much appreciated.
* This Sunday Dundrum will face Eire Og of Craigavon in their second friendly of the year. Details of the throw-in time will be made available to the players on Friday night. There will be training as usual on Wednesday night at 7.30pm and at the same time on Friday. All Reserves and Minors are expected to attend.
* The U-16's begin training tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7pm sharp in Dundrum. All players should be at the clubrooms for 6.45pm. Ballykinlar players will be transported to Dundrum by their representatives Darren Killen and Mark Smith. Dundrum's managerial team consists of Aaron Doyle, Mark Fitzsimons and Thomas McShane. It is hoped to get two friendlies and four training sessions in before the season's start.
* Good luck to Paul McComiskey and the rest of the Down U-21 team when they travel to Irvinestown on Saturday to face Fermanagh in the last eight of the Cadbury's Ulster U-21 FC.
* Best wishes also go to John Morgan and Declan Kavanagh for Saturday when the Down Minors take on Monaghan in Clonduff in the UMFL.
* Well done to Declan Kavanagh who represented Ulster against Leinster at the weekend when he lined out for the Ulster U-17 Compromise Rules team.
* Good luck to Donal Brennan (Dundrum) and Stefan Mason (Ballykinlar) for Saturday when the Red High take on St Columb's, Derry, in the Final of the Loch In Iuir Cup. Both Donal and Stefan are members of the St Joseph's U-16 team.
* The U-14's train in Ballykinlar on Monday night at 7pm. Thomas McShane and Jonathan McMullan are the Dundrum representatives. They will transport the Dundrum U-14 players from the village to Ballykinlar from 6.30pm onwards.
* U-12, U-10 and U-8 training continues every Friday night in the Hall with a 6pm start. In charge of the youngsters this year are Eamon Hogg, Martin Walsh, Eamon Fegan, Paddy Doran and Danny McGrattan.
* Membership is now overdue. Adult fees for those over 18 are £25 while those under 18 will be charged £5. Family membership can be purchased for £10.
* Before the Senior's game with Glasdrumman on Sunday both teams held a minute's silence for Wayne Whyte. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Whyte family and Atticall GFC at this time.
