Dundrum Club Notes: 29th May 2007

* Wins over St Pauls and Bright rounded of a very productive period in Division 3 for the Seniors last week. On Monday past the team defeated St Pauls 3-15 to 2-12 in Holywood while on Friday they disposed of Bright on a 1-15 to 0-03 scoreline in Dundrum.

There will be training for all Senior and Reserve players tonight (Wednesday) at 7.30pm.

* The Reserves showed a marked improvement in their performance against an unbeaten Bryansford III's team on Sunday. Trailing by two points at half time Dundrum fought back valiantly and a late goal by Martin Coughlan levelled the game. However, Bryansford held their nerve and hit two late points to give them a 1-11 to 2-06 win.

Most prominent for Dundrum were Barry Walsh and Martin McKibbin at the back while Stephen McGrattan, Kieran Byrne and Paddy Doran showed up well in the forwards. Most impressive though was Ronan McKibbin who in the forthcoming weeks should be staking his claim for a berth on the Senior panel after some excellent performances for the 2nds.

Next up is a home game against Drumaness on Sunday at 7pm.

* For the first time in recent memory the Minors failed to field. A severe bout of Champions League Final-itis meant that the team failed to fulfill their 1st Round Championship fixture against Saval.

Tonight (Wednesday) there will be an away League game against Bredagh. If the team is to field, this may mean that some U-16's are going to have to make the step up and make themselves available for selection. A bus will pick Dundrum players up at the pitch at 6pm and then will follow through to Ballykinlar and then on to Cherryvale for a 7.30pm throw-in.

* The U-16's moved in to joint 2nd in the League after overcoming a previously unbeaten St Johns team. In a very enjoyable game of football St Josephs ran out 1-10 to 1-06 winners.

St Joseph's team and scorers: E.King, D.Brennan, K.Carville, R.Smith, C.McKee, C.Miskelly, P.Mageean, A.Mageean (0-01), S.O'Rourke (1-03), M.Grant, A.Killen, P.Curry, PJ Conlon, B.Cunningham (0-02), R.Melville (0-02). Sub: S.Mason (0-02).

Last night (Tuesday) the team held a training session while next Tuesday they take on Darragh Cross/Killyleagh in what is going to be a very difficult League fixture in Dundrum.

* The U-14's suffered only their second League defeat of the season as Kilclief defeated them on a 5-10 to 2-06 scoreline. Tomorrow night (Thursday) they host Dromara in Ballykinlar with a 7.30pm throw-in.

* There is no game for the U-12's on Sunday but the club will be hosting an U-10's Blitz on Saturday at 10pm at the pitch. Once again it was extremely encouraging to see over 35 children taking part in training on Friday evening in the U-12, U-10, U-8 and U-6 age categories.

* The CUL Camp forms are now being circulated amongst the juveniles. These camps are a great way for juveniles aged between 7 and 13 years of age to spend a fun week enhancing their skills. The cost is £30 per child, and £25 for every additional child in a family. This price allows the children to receive coaching from some of the county's top coaches and footballers, and also includes a whole kit. Anyone who has not yet received a form but wishes for their child or children to attend, contact Eamon Hogg ASAP to receive a form.

* Well done to Aidan Fegan who lined out for the Down Primary School's Cumman na mBunscol Hurling team against their Derry equivalent last weekend at half time in the Senior game between Down and Derry. Aidan weighed in with two goals and most importantly had a great day out.

* The next team on Saturday Car Boot duty is Kieran Walsh, Neil John McLoughlin and Philip Shields.

* Congratulations to former club secretary Peter McVerry and his wife Grainne on the recent birth of their baby girl.

* By Christmas of this year PRO Mark Fitzsimons wants to complete a revised version of the club's history. At the moment the history is sketchy and has huge gaps in it. Anybody who has memorabilia or snippets of information regarding any aspect of the club covering any period of time can contact me through my email address: marc_mac_siomoin@yahoo.co.uk.

* Anybody who is interested in the forthcoming Health and Safety course should contact the club's new First Aid expert Neil John McLoughlin to book their place ASAP.
