*
There are two
corrections to
the club notes
that were submitted
last week. Firstly,
I forgot to mention
that Ned King
recieved a memento
for his All Ireland
success with the
Down U-21's back
in 1979. Incidentally,
Ned also captained
this team.
Secondly, Pat
Lennon recieved
a Special Recognition
Award and not
a Hall of Fame
Induction. I would
just like to apoligise
for these two
oversights.
* All involved
with the club
would like to
extend their sympathy
to Senior team
player John Hurley
and his family
on the recent
death of his father
Eoin.
* For the second
year in a row
the U-20's have
made it through
to the East Down
B Final. After
a very entertaining
game they defeated
Drumaness by a
point on a 1-13
to 2-09 scoreline
in Ballykinlar.
This Sunday they
will face competition
favourites St
Mary's in the
decider. St Mary's
are an amalgamation
of Dromara and
Liatroim. All
Dundrum and Ballykinlar
club members are
urged to come
out and support
the players.
On another positive
note it was fantastic
to see Conor Kearney
and Paddy Cunningham
return to action
for the team.
Both players hadn't
played since Minor
level and lets
hope both of them
will continue
to stick at it.
* The U-13's lost
out by four points
to Downpatrick
RGU on Sunday
morning. Despite
leading for most
of the game the
young charges
succumbed in the
last ten minutes
after star player
Luke Hogg was
sent off. The
final scoreline
read: St Josephs
4-07 Downpatrick
RGU 5-08.
This Sunday the
U-13's will play
their final game
in the League
against Carryduff
B at 12pm. Training
will also take
place on Friday
night at the usual
time.
* Congratulations
to Paul McComiskey
and Queens who
progressed to
the last eight
of the Ryan Cup
last week. The
Malone Road men
hammered BMC at
the Dub. Paul
was in fine form
once again as
he had himself
2-03.
Another young
Dundrum footballer
Declan Kavanagh
is also making
great strides
with the John
Moore's University
team in Liverpool.
They will be gunning
for the British
Championships
this year which
would allow them
over to Ireland
to compete during
Sigerson weekend
in the Trench
Cup.
Aaron Doyle is
also trying his
luck at 3rd Level
games. He is part
of the St Mary's
Freshers setup
and will be hoping
to make his way
on to the Sigerson
panel in the coming
months.
* There was double
disappointment
for St Patricks,
Downpatrick, in
the past week.
The Rannafast
team exited to
Omagh CBS during
the quarter final
stages. Ballykinlar
clubman and St
Joseph's U-16
captain Sean O'Rourke
lined out at centre
half back.
Then on Saturday
in the McLarnon
Cup the 'Red High'
were hammered
by St Michaels,
Lurgan, by twelve
points. Dundrum's
Richard Fitzsimons
is part of the
panel.
Hard luck to both
teams!
* There will be
a committee meeting
in the clubrooms
beginning at 7.30pm
sharp on Monday
night.
* Congratulations
to Peter King
and his fiancee
Jen on the recent
birth of their
baby daughter.
