Good luck to the
St Josephs U-20
team who will
face St Mary's
(Dromara/Liatroim)
on Sunday in the
Final of the East
Down B Championship.
St Josephs will
be hoping to retain
the McCashin Cup
which they won
in 2006.
In preparation
for the Final
there will be
a training session
in Ballykinlar
on Wednesday night
(tonight) at 7.30pm
sharp. Following
on from this a
light session
will be had at
the same venue
and time on Friday
evening.
On Sunday past
the U-20's took
on Eire Og, Craigavon,
in a friendly
at the North Armagh
venue. The Craigavon
side fielded their
Senior team and
emerged victorious
by four points
on a 2-10 to 1-09
scoreline. Thanks
to Eire Og captain
Pauric McKeever
for facilitating
the game and to
the club for providing
refreshments after
the match. Also,
a big thanks goes
to Daniel Rooney
for refereeing
the game.
* The U-13's picked
up their second
win on the trot
on Sunday when
they defeated
Carryduff B 7-06
to 3-04 in Ballykinlar.
This impressive
win followed on
from last week's
victory over Liatroim.
This finishes
off the U-13's
campaign for the
season. Overall,
this was a very
worthwhile venture
and the East Down
Board must be
commended for
the smooth running
of the competition.
* Two underage
stars from the
club will be in
action at Pairc
Esler this afternoon
(Wednesday). Conn
Rooney will line
out at full back
for St Malachy's,
Castlewellan,
in the Down U-14
Vocational Schools
Final. Conn is
the youngest player
on the team as
he is still 2nd
year and this
is a 3rd year's
tournament.
Following this
game at the same
venue Brendan
Cunningham will
line out at right
half forward for
De La Salle, Downpatrick,
when they will
contest the Down
U-16 Vocational
Schools Final.
In the Semi Final
last week Brendan
scored a great
point to help
the county town
side progress
to the decider.
Good luck to both
players!
* Two Dundrum
Senior players
lined out on opposite
sides at St Patrick's
Park, Newcastle,
last week. Paul
McComiskey played
at full forward
for Queens while
John Hurley was
positioned at
right half back
for Down in a
very keenly contested
challenge game.
* Good luck to
Paul McComiskey
and the rest of
the Queens squad
for today's (Wednesday)
Ryan Cup Semi
Final against
the Garda College
in Dublin.
* A sub committee
is to be formed
to help produce
the new club history
in time for the
75th Anniversary
which will take
place in 2009.
So far the committee
comprises of Mark
Fitzsimons, Kieran
McKibben, Eddie
Campbell, Thomas
McShane and Peter
McVerry. It is
hoped that five
further members
will be recruited
before the first
meeting which
will take place
in January.
