Dundrum GFC Notes - 5th Septemebr 2007
Dundrum
GFC Club Notes
* The U-16's did
the club and the
parish proud once
again as they
annexed the East
Down B Championship
on Saturday in
Loughinisland.
In what turned
out to be a very
exciting game
of football the
youngsters defeated
Teconnaught on
a 3-08 to 1-09
scoreline.
This has been
a tremendous season
so far with the
League and Championship
double in the
bag. All eyes
will now be fixed
on the County
Final against
Drumgath which
will take place
towards the end
of September.
All the players
and the management
associated with
the team would
like to thank
all those from
Dundrum and Ballykinlar
who turned out
on Saturday to
support them.
It really meant
a lot. They would
also like to thank
the ladies of
Ballykinlar GFC
for the superb
meal they cooked
in the Social
Club after the
match.
Incidentally,
five years ago
in 2002 the amalgamated
Laochra na Farraige
team from Ballykinlar/Dundrum
won the East Down
B League and Championship
double. However,
they just fell
short to Longstone
in the County
Final. Hopefully
the 2007 breed
can go one further.
* The club held
it's Sportsday
on Saturday and
what a success
it turned out
to be. A larger
than expected
crowd converged
on the pitch under
the late Summer
sun for a fun
filled day of
activities. In
what was an action
packed event everyone
young and old
was catered for.
With events ranging
from bungee runs
to target golf
and from egg and
spoon races to
penalty kick competitions,
the enjoyment
factor soared
through the roof.
Along with all
this there was
also face painting
and a barbecue
and a whole lot
inbetween. Thanks
goes to all those
involved in making
the day such a
success. Here's
hopng for more
of
the same next
Summer!
* The Seniors
are currently
preparing for
the Playoffs which
are due to take
place on the 22nd
of September,
the 29th of September
and the 6th of
October.
Training will
take place tonight
(Wednesday) at
7pm sharp. Another
session will be
held on Friday
at the same time.
It is imperative
that everyone
is on the pitch
for 6.45pm so
that the session
can be started
on time.
In regards to
the Playoffs,
the Duns will
first face Saul,
then Tullylish
and finally Bredagh.
* The 'Cemetery
Club' was held
in the Hall on
Saturday night
and proved to
be a very enjoyable
night. It is hoped
that many more
plays will take
place in the Hall
over the coming
year.
* Those who are
interested in
purchasing a St
Joseph's hoodie
should contact
either Cormac
Venney or Mark
Fitzsimons ASAP.
* Congratulations
to Grainne Walsh
on her recent
engagement. Who
knows, an intercounty
transfer into
Dundrum from Wicklow
may be on the
cards!
