A disjointed
Dundrum were
no match for
a well drilled
Bredagh team
at Ballykinlar
on Sunday evening.
Played on a
prisitine surface,
Bredagh produced
an exhillarating
2nd half performance
to emerge worthy
victors by eight
points.
The Ravenhill
Road men had
solid performances
all over the
field but the
likes of Kevin
Muldoon and
Rory McCaughey
shone in defence
while Eoin Costello,
Brian Rice and
Henry Deazley
impressed to
no end in attack.
Former Antrim
manager Jody
Gormley worked
hard from midfield
while Derry
veteran Enda
Gormley was
very accurate
from set peices.
Dundrum had
few top drawer
performances.
Nevertheless
Neil McComiskey
and Marc Cunningham
were faultless
in defence while
Kieran Walsh
and Shea Curran
outdone themselves
in midfield.
It was yet another
off day for
the forwards
with only Martin
Melville scoring
from play. That
in itself says
a lot about
the Dun's season
long problems
in attack.
The 1st half
was scrappy
at times but
it was Bredagh
who always looked
the more threatening.
Wing forward
Eoin Costello
was in superb
form notching
three points
while Enda Gormley
slotted over
two frees and
Henry Deazley
registered one
from play.
The Duns had
quite a bit
of possession
in the 1st period.
However, the
wrong option
up front continually
stifilled any
scoring aspirations.
Nevertheless,
a Kieran Walsh
free and points
from open play
from Hurley
and Melville
kept the Duns
in touch. A
fortunate goal
near the half
time whistle
left the teams
level when the
Bredagh shot
stopper fumbled
the ball in
to his own net
after sustained
pressure from
Colm King.
The 2nd half
was all one
way traffic
for Bredagh.
Playing with
a slight wind
advantage they
knocked over
eight points.
Two goals also
came their way.
Conal Toland
bagged the first
shortly after
the restart
while Henry
Deazley rolled
the ball in
to the Dun's
net for the
second major
with about eight
minutes remaining.
Five Enda Gormley
frees, a double
from tricky
corner forward
Brian Rice and
an inspirational
long range Jody
Gormley score
completed Bredagh's
superb 2nd half
total.
Dundrum failed
to score from
play in the
2nd half. Bredagh
constantly pushed
all attack minded
players back
and forced them
to shoot from
awkward angles.
Four Kieran
Walsh frees
and a set peice
each from Hogg
and Rooney completed
a disappointing
return from
thirty minutes
of action.
Bredagh will
progress to
the Quarter
Finals as underdogs
and this should
suit them fine.
Dundrum have
to focus on
saving their
Division 2 status
from hereon
in. It's going
to be an interesting
few weeks.
