Dundrum Club Notes - 7th July 2008

Club Notes
* Dundrum GFC would like to extend their sympathy to the Cole family on the recent death of Michael. May he rest in peace.
* The Seniors were hugely disappointed to lose out by two points to Attical last Thursday night. The Mournemen were victors on a 1-10 to 0-11 scoreline.
Tomorrow night (Thursday), the team travel to Moygannon to take on Warrenpoint. Players are to meet at 5.30pm. This will be the last game before the July break.
* It has been a long time coming but finally the Reserves have broke their duck. Without a victory since July 2006, the 2nds put on a magnificent display to defeat Saul 6-13 to 2-09 on Sunday night.
All nineteen players involved battled bravely and some of the football on show was very easy on the eye. Mentors Peter McCormick and John McShane were delighted with the win and hopefully the team can keep up this standard of performance for the remainder of the season.
Team and scorers: D.Campbell, P.Byrne, D.McGrattan, P.Curry, R.Fitzsimons, G.Graham, B.Cunningham, M.Melville (0-02), M.Murray, E.King (1-01), C.Venney (1-05, 1F), M.Fitzsimons, C.McShane (2-02), M.Coughlan (0-02), S.McGrattan (1-00). Subs: P.Smyth (0-01), NJ McLaughlin, C.McKibbin, D.Northrop (1-00).
* It was great to see Conor McKibbin return to the fold when he made an appearance for the Reserves on Sunday night. Conor was a huge figure during the successful 2005 JFC campaign and everyone at the club is delighted to see him back in action.
* The Minors were unable to field against Loughinisland last week in the Championship. This was mainly due to players being on holidays. Tonight (Wednesday) the side will take on Bright in Ballynoe. Dundrum players are to meet at 6.15pm while Ballykinlar players should meet for 6.30pm.
* Eamon King done goals for the Down U-17 team who drew with Sligo in a challenge game in the Yeats county on Saturday.
* The U-16's took to the field to face Drumaness last week with only fourteen players. Nevertheless the team battled gamely and were unfortunate to lose out by three points, 1-12 to 1-09.
* Congratulations to Conn Rooney who has been selected for the 2008 East Down U-14 Development squad. This is a great achievement and everybody at the club is extremely proud of him.
* The U-12's lost out to St Johns on Sunday. The Drumnaquoile side were winners by four points, 5-08 to 5-04.
* With the July break now upon us all underage players should contact their respective managers to see about arrangements for training.
* Remember to visit dundrum-clg.com for all the latest club news and match reports. The website is now updated daily.
* Congratulations to Neil McComiskey and Eamon Trainor who both graduated last week from Queens University, Belfast.
* The next Saturday car boot sale will take place on the 19th of July. The team for that day consists of Kieran Walsh, Philip Shields and Richard Fitzsimons.
* As part of our ongoing development programme we are holding our annual fundraising golf classic on Friday 8th August 2008 at Downpatrick Golf Club. There are fantastic prizes on the day but more importantly it is a great opportunity for us all to socialise and have an enjoyable day. The day will comprise of a team golf tournament and three-course meal, followed by the prizegiving ceremony and music in the Tonn Ruray Bar, Dundrum at 10pm that evening. Contact Paul Byrne ( 07970207467) or Barry Walsh for further details.
