A fantastic
last ten minutes
saw Atticall
escape out of
Dundrum with
two points in
tow in what
turned out to
be a very tight
encounter.
Dundrum have
improved somewhat
of late and
for the majority
of this game
they looked
the better team.
Chris Hogg proved
to be an excellent
link between
defence and
attack while
Marc Cunningham
was very strong
in defence.
Up front Paul
McComiskey and
target man Colm
King worked
really well
in tandem while
Conor McShane
always looked
dangerous when
in possession.
However, experience
told once more
and the Mournemen
showed this
to no end. Whenever
they looked
down and out
they had the
leaders to usher
them back in
to the fray.
This ultimately
proved the difference
between both
teams.
The home team
started the
game off at
a frantic pace.
Paul McComiskey
flew over a
free before
Paul Rooney
was denied a
spectacular
goal by the
Atticall keeper.
McComiskey bagged
another two
frees before
Atticall got
off the mark
with a Kevin
Quinn 45'.
Dundrum were
on top during
this period
and with Colm
King winning
everything in
full forward
they looked
odds on to top
the scoring
charts by the
final whistle.
However, a litany
of missed opportunities
came and went
as the Duns
failed to add
to their three
scores.
On the otherhand
Atticall took
their chances.
Ollie Sloan
and the energetic
Dominic Trainor
pointed to level
the game before
Gary Morgan
converted on
22 minutes to
put his side
in the lead
by the minimum.
Dundrum continued
to waste chances
before McComiskey
belted over
his fourth free.
However, just
before halftime
Gary Morgan
sent over a
21' to leave
the Mournemen
in charge by
one at the break.
The 2nd half
saw the game
destroyed as
it was reduced
to a stop start
pantomine. Nevertheless
both sides perservered
and a strong
Atticall finish
saw them to
victory.
It was the away
side who pointed
first to open
up a two point
lead. Dundrum
replied instantly
with Paul McComiskey's
first from play.
This instigated
a Dundrum scoring
spree which
lasted until
the final quarter
of the game.
McComiskey added
to his previous
effort with
a wonderful
long range effort
before Cormac
Venney bagged
his first of
the night. Shortly
after Venney's
minor, the homesters
were awarded
a penalty. This
seemed to be
a great opportunity
to establish
a strong foothold
in the game.
However, McComiskey's
effort was well
saved and Attical
still remained
a threat.
As the game
progressed the
Duns continued
to extend their
advantage despite
not dominating
the middle sector.
Conor McShane,
Kieran Walsh
and Colm King
all added scores
to leave John
McShane's side
in charge by
four points
with 12 minutes
remaining.
It was at this
stage when Atticall
snuck back in
to the reckoning.
Gary Morgan
pointed a free
to put a major
in it before
the brave Dominic
Trainor found
the net after
jinking the
ball to the
side of Dundrum's
Eamon King.
Louis Sloan
and Declan Hardy
took charge
of midfield
as the game
reached a nervous
conclusion.
In the final
five minutes
the Duns buckled
as Atticall
raised the white
flag three times.
Kieran Walsh
contributed
a late free
for the Duns
cause but it
was Atticall
who ended up
the victors.
