History was
made on Friday
night as Dundrum
and Bryansford
faced off for
the first time
ever st Senior
level.
However, it
was Bryansford
who stole the
show with a
14 point win
which once more
highlighted
their sheer
dominance at
this level.
In a totally
one sided 1st
half the Ford
tallied up 2-10
compared to
the host's 0-03.
Instrumental
for Eamon Burns's
charges in this
period was centre
half forward
and ace playmaker
Conor Maginn.
Winning a plethora
of break ball,
Maginn was the
catlyst for
the majority
of Bryansford's
surges forward.
The Ford opened
in a blaze of
glory as Chris
Brannigan, Joe
Ireland and
Ciaran Brannigan
all pointed.
Martin Melville
replied for
the Duns with
an excellent
curling effort
before Bryansford
switched the
style on.
Free's apeice
from the two
Brannigan's,
Chris and Ciaran,
arrived before
young Minor
talent David
McKibben slotted
over. County
panellist Conor
Gribben then
showed his pedigree
with his first
score of the
night.
20 minutes
in Maginn arrived
on the scene
with his first
party peice.
After steamrollering
through the
Duns backline
he layed the
ball off to
Timmy Hanna.
The quick thinking
Hanna jinked
past his marker
before returning
the ball back
to Maginn. The
Queens Sigerson
star then unleashed
a powerful drive
to the net which
left stand-in
Dundrum keeper
Chris Hogg with
no chance.
Bryansford
were flying
at this stage
and further
minor scores
from Chris Brannigan
and Conor Gribben
once more re-inforced
their dominance.
With the half
nearing it's
closure the
Duns began to
settle and converted
efforts from
Shea Curran
and Kieran Walsh
helped take
the impending
look of doom
off the scoreboard.
Yet, it was
the Ford who
finished with
a flourish.
Chris Brannigan
sailed over
a free before
Conor Gribben
found the homester's
net with a well
applied finish
after some fine
work from Ciaran
Brannigan.
The 2nd half
took on a totally
different form.
Dundrum upped
their game considerably
while Bryansford
failed to truly
play to their
potential.
Paul Rooney
set out the
hosts stall
immediately
with a free
before Kieran
Walsh raised
the white flag
with a set peice
from a difficult
angle.
The Duns were
hogging possession
at this stage
but a bout of
sloppiness allowed
the Ford to
once again extend
their advantage.
The dangerous
Chris Brannigan
soon pointed
before Maginn
cracked in his
second goal
of the night
after putting
the finishing
touches on a
mazy solo run.
Dundrum were
quick to react
though and county
star Paul McComiskey
grabbed the
game by the
scruff of the
neck and landed
three scores
in a row. Two
of these came
from play while
one as from
a free.
The Duns were
working overtime
by this stage
but yet another
costly loss
of possession
enabled the
Ford to goal
for a fourth
time through
young substitute
Neil Murray.
Paul Rooney
and captain
Kieran Walsh
then exchanged
scores with
Ruari Donnelly
and Chris Brannigan
before Walsh
slammed over
his second free
of the night.
In the closing
stages McComiskey
hit his final
contribution
from the '14
while Chris
Brannigan put
a seal on the
Ford's victory
with an expertly
hit long range
free.
Despite a brave
performance
from John McShane's
side in the
2nd half, Bryansford's
1st half dominance
did all the
damage. In a
spirited performance
from the Red
and Whites,
It was Michael
Rooney, Philip
Shields, Marc
Cunningham and
Aaron Doyle
who shone in
defence while
Kieran Walsh
was superb in
midfield. In
the attack Martin
Melville had
a sound game
as did the ever
improving Paul
Rooney. Paul
McComiskey made
a major contribution
in the 2nd half
after a subdued
performance
in the 1st period.
Bryansford
were very strong
in most departments
and their vast
experience of
Division 1 football
really shone
through. Gareth
Toner was the
lynchpin of
the defence
and was ably
supported by
Simon Poland
and Darach Neeson.
Kalum King was
a rock at centre
field and the
timing and precision
of his fielding
was a joy to
watch. In the
forwards, Conor
Maginn was the
most accomplished
player on view
while Chris
Brannigan made
an immense contribution
with 6 points
coming his way.
It looks unlikely
that any other
team in this
Division will
be able to topple
the Ford this
season. It is
almost a certainty
that they will
be making a
quick return
to Division
1 football next
year.
Dundrum will
need to battle
their heart
out in the coming
weeks if they
are to maintain
their Division
2 status.
