* The Seniors
ventured to
Tullylish last
Monday night
for a crunch
Division 2 game.
However, after
a brave and
valiant effort
from the Duns,
the West Down
team won out
by eight points,
0-14 to 1-03.
The homeside
led 0-07 to
0-02 at the
break. Dundrum's
scores came
from Conor McShane
and Kieran Walsh.
The 2nd half
was a tight
affair. The
Lish whacked
over seven points
while the away
side had themselves
1-01. Shea Curran
grabbed a late
goal while Paul
Rooney weighed
in with a point.
Overall, this
was another
gutsy and determined
performance
from the Seniors
but unfortunately
they fell short
again.
There were good
displays from
Eamon King in
goals, Michael
Rooney, John
Hurley and Aaron
Doyle in defence
while Cormac
Venney and Conor
McShane put
in impressive
contributions
in the attack.
Dundrum: C.King,
M.Rooney, M.Cunningham,
J.McKibben,
C.Hogg, J.Hurley,
A.Doyle, S.Curran
(1-00), K.Walsh
(0-01, 1F),
C.McShane (0-01),
C.Venney, M.Melville,
P.Rooney (0-01),
C.King, C.McKee.
Subs: R.Fitzsimons,
C.Miskelly,
M.Fitzsimons,
NJ McLaughlin.
* Next up for
the Seniors
is Kilclief
at home on Saturday
at 5pm. Players
are to meet
at 4pm.
* The Reserves
finished their
season off with
two games in
the past week.
Last Wednesday
they travelled
to table toppers
Liatroim III's
with only fourteen
players. The
superior homeside
dominated from
start to finish
and won handsomely
on a 9-18 to
0-02 scoreline.
The Duns had
to play the
2nd half with
only thirteen
players after
Martin Melville
went off injured.
This made it
extremely difficult
for the remaining
players on the
field who battled
gamefully to
the final whistle.
On Sunday St
Johns provided
the opposition
for the season
finale and it
was the Drumnaquoile
men who emerged
victors on a
1-12 to 0-09
scoreline.
The Duns fielded
with the bare
fifteen while
St Johns had
rich pickings
from their subs
bench.
The Johnnies
went in trailing
by a point at
the break (0-07
to 0-06) but
a strong 2nd
half saw them
come through.
Dundrum played
some great stuff
in the 1st half
with the defence
on top. The
2nd half saw
legs tire but
nevertheless
the team never
gave up.
Philip Stacey
was excellent
with his precise
kickouts while
Paul Byrne,
Danny McGrattan
and Paddy Curry
gave little
away in the
full back line.
Conall McKee,
Michael Rooney
and Conor Miskelly
defended courageously
in the half
back line while
Chris Hogg was
outstanding
in midfield
along with his
partner Gareth
Malley. Richard
Fitzsimons took
some nice scores
at centre half
forward and
recieved some
good support
from Cormac
Venney and Mark
Fitzsimons on
the wings while
the full forward
line of Barry
Walsh, Gerard
Graham and Rab
Smyth foraged
hard for the
hour.
A big thanks
goes to the
Reserve team
management of
Paddy Doherty
and Peter McCormick
who took over
the reigns of
the 2nds management
this year. Hopefully,
the two men
will be there
next year to
try to guide
this set of
players further
through the
ranks.
* Most East
Down fixtures
are nearly wrapped
up with only
the U-12s left
in action. They
still have to
play a re-arranged
B Championship
Semi Final with
St Johns.
* There will
be a committee
meeting on Monday
the 22nd in
the clubrooms
at 7.30pm
* Tomorrow night
(Thursday) there
will be defibrilator
training in
the Parish Centre
at 7.30pm. Anyone
involved in
the coaching
of teams or
are a member
of the Car Boot
teams should
be in attendance.
Any other club
members are
also welcome
to attend.
