Glasdrumman
loose narrowly to SHamrocks
ACFL Div
2: Glasdrumman 1-09 Shamrocks 0-15
The first home game of the new season
saw Shamrocks make the journey to
the Quarter Road on Friday night looking
for revenge, having been beaten at
the same venue last season. Glasdrumman
started the stronger and had opened
up a three point lead after four minutes
with points from Martin O'Neill, Raymond
Clarke and Cormac Murphy. After a
shaky start Shamrocks came more into
the game and went five points to three
ahead in the next ten minutes with
two points from Brendan Loughran and
one each from Stephen O'Hagan, Conor
McCoy and Chris Caulfield. In the
twentieth minute Mick Mooney scored
a point followed two minutes later
by a point from the right boot of
Cormac Murphy. Martin O'Neill restored
the Glasdrumman lead in the twenty
fourth minute but Brendan Loughran
levelled the game in the thirtieth
minute. Two minutes later Mick Mooney
rattled the back of the Shamrock's
net to leave the half time score Glasdrumman
1-06 Shamrocks 0-6.
Shamrocks started the second half in the same way that Glasdrumman had the first and within five minutes levelled the game with points from Kieran Courtney, Conor McCoy and Brendan Loughran but Glasdrumman fought their way back with two points from Cormac Murphy, one from play and one from a long range free. Brendan Loughran added to his points tally two minutes later but Cormac Murphy restored Glasdrumman's two point advantage almost immediately. In the twenty first minute Chris Caulfield got a point back for Shamrocks and two minutes later a rasping shot was tipped over the bar by Glasdrumman goalkeeper Paul Brennan to leave the game all square yet again. Almost immediately Conor McCoy gave Shamrocks the lead for the first time since the fourteenth minute of the first half. Glasdrumman fought back and should have had a second goal but somehow the ball was cleared off the Shamrock's line. Lifted by their escape Kevin McGuigan pointed and the same player added another in injury time to leave the final score Glasdrumman 1-9 Shamrocks 0-15.
