2004 Intermediate Championship: Attical 0-13 Glasdrumman 1-08

Glasdrumman gave intermediate championship favourites Attical a scare on Monday night in Ballymartin when they faced each other in the first round of the championship. From the throw in Attical went on the attack but it was twelve minutes before either team registered a score when Attical’s Martin Magee opened the scoring with a point. Glasdrumman suffered a bad blow shortly after this when they lost centre half back Cormac Murphy with a shoulder injury as Attical increased their lead with points from Micael Sloan and Ollie Sloan before Raymond Clarke opened the scoring for Glasdrumman with a point from a free after twenty two minutes.

The rest of the first half saw Attical on the offensive and they added to their tally with a point from Paddy Sloan and two points from Ollie Sloan to leave the halftime score Attical 0-6 Glasdrumman 0-1. Atticall started where they left off in the first half and were first to score with a point from Daniel Sloan in the second minute but this was quickly answered with points for Glasdrumman from Raymond Magorrian and Declan Grant . In the fifth minute Paddy Sloan got his second point of the game quickly followed by a point from Ollie Sloan. Raymond Magorrian slotted over a point almost immediately but this was quickly answered when sub Johnny Morgan scored a point and Ollie Sloan added another to bring his personal total to five and give Attical a seven point cushion with ten minutes left.

Glasdrumman however had other plans and they were rewarded with a point from Raymond Magorrian in the twenty second minute. Attical goalkeeper Paddy McAstocker did well to save from Mick Mooney as Glasdrumman piled on the pressure. Two minutes later a free was dropped into the square and the fist of Declan Grant hammered the ball to the Attical net. This was quickly followed by a point from Raymond Magorrian and a point from Shane Feeney in a three minute spell as Attical’s lead had dwindled to a single point.

Glasdrumman now had the bit between their teeth and Raymond Clarke cleverly beat his marker and stepped inside but his attempt curled agonisingly past the right hand post. As if inspired by their let off Attical fought their way up field and were rewarded with a point from Daniel Sloan to ease the incessant pressure. Gary Morgan eased the pressure further with a point but still Glasdrumman kept the pressure on the Attical defence as left full back Vincie Smith added a point to leave the final score Attical 0-13 Glasdrumman 1-8
