John Brennan
Glasdrumman’s
second match of the 2005 season saw
them visit Tullylish on Friday night
in search of points to add to their
two from last Sunday’s
game. Tullylish, on the other hand.
were out to prove themselves after
their shock defeat on Sunday away to
Ardglass. Glasdrumman started the
stronger but Tullylish were first to
score with a point from corner
forward Chris McGovern in the third
minute. Sean McDowell levelled the
score two minutes later but
midfielder John McAreavey restored
the Tullylish lead in the sixth
minute. Cormac Murphy again levelled
the match four minutes later before
Gary Chamber restored the Tullylish
lead in the twelfth minute. A series
of wides when it seemed easier to
score by Tullylish kept Glasdrumman
only a single point in arrears. Two
points from Cormac Murphy in the
twenty and twenty ninth were
answered by Mark Fitzpatrick and
Mickey Feeney to leave the halftime
score Tullylish 0-5 Glasdrumman 0-4.
Mark Fitzpatrick further increased
the Tullylish lead straight from the
throw in with a well taken point but
their lead was short lived as two
points from Raymond Magorrian in the
third and sixth minute left the game
all square yet again. Glasdrumman
took the lead three minutes later as
Gary McGreevy got his name on the
score sheet. This seemed to spur
Tullylish on and they piled on three
points without reply, one from John
McAreavey and two from Davy Corbett
to leave them two points in front
with twenty six minutes on the
clock. One minute later the ball was
in the back of the Tullylish net as
Cormac Murphy scored his second goal
in two games to leave the game
poised for a grandstand finish. The
spectators were treated to just that
as firstly Tullylish levelled the
game before Pat Mallon restored the
Glasdrumman lead in the thirtieth
minute. With the last kick of the
game Tullylish again levelled
matters to leave the final score
Tullylish 0-11 Glasdrumman 1-08.
Overall it was a fair result for
both teams but how Tullylish must
rue those missed chances in the
first half.
