Football - Mitchels 1-06 Glasdrumman

Friday night saw Glasdrumman make the
journey to Newry to play Mitchels,
having already beaten them
comprehensively in the first game in
Glasdrumman. Both teams took some time
to settle with Glasdrumman taking a
one point lead when Mick Mooney scored
an excellent fisted point after seven
minutes. It took another seven minutes
to register the next score, an
equalising point for Mitchels. Raymond
Clarke got Glasdrumman’s
second point after sixteen minutes and
this was followed three minutes later
by Mitchel’s
second point of the match. A minute
later, after some good support play
from Glasdrumman, the ball ended up in
the hands of full forward Cormac
Murphy and he made no mistake beating
the Mitchel’s
goalkeeper to give Glasdrumman a goal
cushion. A minute later Raymond
Magorrian further extended the lead
with a point from a free and this was
quickly followed by Cormac Murphy’s
second goal of the game. Mitchels
pulled a point back two minutes later
but a Cormac Murphy point in the
twenty seventh minute restored the
Glasdrumman lead. The half ended with
a Mitchels point to leave the halftime
score Mitchels 0-4 Glasdrumman 2-4 .
The first attack of the second half
for Glasdrumman ended with the ball in
the back of the Mitchels net as that
man Murphy got his and Glasdrumman’s
third goal of the game. However
Mitchels hit back in the third minute
with a goal after some sloppy play in
the Glasdrumman back line and they
followed this with a point four
minutes later. In the tenth minute
Cormac Murphy further extended the
Glasdrumman lead with a point. Then in
a four minute spell Glasdrumman added
a further four points, two each from
Martin O’Neill
and Cormac Murphy. In the twenty
fourth minute Raymond Clarke added a
second point to his personal tally
before Mitchels got their second point
of the half. The final minutes
belonged to Glasdrumman as Raymond
Clarke added a further point followed
in quick succession by two well taken
points from Martin O’Neill
to leave the full time score Mitchels
1-6 Glasdrumman 3-13.
