Senior Football
Glasdrumman 1-14 Ardglass 0-10
On Friday night Ardglass were the
visitors to the Quarter Road keen to
secure a top three playoff position
for themselves and they started the
livelier with two points from the boot
of Liam Mullan in the first three
minutes. Glasdrumman started to settle
and Cormac Murphy levelled the game
with two points in the fifth and sixth
minute. Two minutes later Raymond
Magorrian put Glasdrumman ahead with
his first point of the game. Ardglass
hit back immediately with a
Christopher Taggart point but this was
quickly answered by a second point
from Raymond Magorrian. Liam Mullan
levelled the game again in the
thirteenth minute before a well worked
move by Glasdrumman ended with Cormac
Murphy receiving the ball in front of
the goal and with the sort of scoring
form that he has shown all season
there was only one place that the ball
was going, low and hard into the
Ardglass net. He added a point five
minutes later to leave four points
between the teams. The last five
minutes saw a flurry of activity with
Chris Deegan getting two points for
Ardglass and Martin O’Neill
getting one for Glasdrumman to leave
the halftime score Glasdrumman 1-6
Ardglass 0-6.
Glasdrumman started the second half
with a real sense of purpose and
within a minute Raymond Clarke found
himself in on goal and he opened the
scoring with an intelligent fisted
point. In a ten minute spell of
dominance by Glasdrumman they added a
further four points with two from
Cormac Murphy and one each from Pat
Mallon and Raymond Magorrian. In the
fifteenth minute Ardglass got their
first score of the half when Paul
Smyth pointed but Pat Mallon restored
the Glasdrumman lead two minutes later
with a point. In the twenty second
minute Liam Mullan added a point for
Ardglass but Glasdrumman responded
with a similar score from Cormac
Murphy. As in the first half the game
ended with three points in the last
three minutes with Liam Mullan getting
two for Ardglass and Cormac Murphy
responding with one for Glasdrumman to
leave the final score Glasdrumman 1-14
Ardglass 0-10 .
This was an excellent overall
Glasdrumman performance both from a
footballing and a discipline point of
view where the players were able to
stand back from a few hefty challenges
without getting involved and accept
the referee‘s
decision when it went against them.
The defence played very well
throughout with important switches
being made quickly and decisively from
the sideline as the game developed, to
good effect. The midfield pairing of
Pat Mallon and Declan Grant were
impressive winning a lot of ball and
when the ball reached the forwards
they produced some superb direct
attacking football which was good to
watch.

Sunday was the annual sports day and
the weather certainly smiled on the
occasion on what was probably the best
Sunday of the year. The large crowd
were entertained by the Glasdrumman
and Longstone pipe bands and the many
sideshows and underage sevens
football.
