Bosco 1-8 Glasdrumman 4-14
Glasdrumman made the journey to
Newry on Thursday night with a point
to prove as Newry Bosco had been the
team responsible for their only
defeat of the season to date.
Straight from the throw in
midfielder Pat Mallon won the ball
and Glasdrumman were one point up. A
minute later Raymond Clarke made it
two. In the next ten minutes Bosco
clawed their way back into the game
and were rewarded by two points. In
the fifteenth minute they went
ahead for the only time in the
match but three points in three
minutes from Cormac Murphy restored
the Glasdrumman lead, a lead which
never looked in danger as
Glasdrumman stepped up a gear. In
the twenty first minute Cormac
Murphy raced through the Bosco
defence before hitting the net for
Glasdrumman’s first goal of the
game. Bosco bounced back with a
point three minute later following
an excellent save from Glasdrumman
goalkeeper Ronan McDowell before a
great run from Mick Mooney ended
with a pass to Cormac Murphy who
made no mistake for his and
Glasdrumman’s second goal of the
half. A minute later Murphy combined
well with Raymond Magorrian whose
excellent shot ended up in the Bosco
net to leave the score at halftime
Bosco 0-4 Glasdrumman 3-5.
Straight from the throw in
midfielder Pat Mallon won the ball
and he did the same as in the first
half getting Glasdrumman’s first
point within seconds of the restart.
This was followed two minutes later
by a similar score from Mick Mooney.
Bosco rallied and were rewarded with
a third minute point but their joy
was short lived as full forward
Murphy struck again for his third
goal of the game. This was followed
after eleven minutes by a Raymond
Clarke point which Bosco cancelled
out with a point two minutes later.
Conor Larkin was switched from
defence and this certainly made a
difference as he found the back of
the Glasdrumman net after sixteen
minutes, Again Glasdrumman responded
with points apiece from Shaun
Brennan and Raymond Clarke within
two minutes. In the twenty fourth
minute Bosco added another point to
their tally and a minute later a
shot from Conor Larkin looked goal
bound until corner back Francis
O’Neill somehow got his hand to the
ball to divert it over the bar. This
was to be Bosco’s last score of the
game as Glasdrumman took control of
the last eight minutes adding to
their tally with points from Cormac
Murphy, Raymond Clarke, Shaun
Brennan and Raymond Magorrian to
leave the final score Bosco 1-8
Glasdrumman 4-14.
This was a game where Glasdrumman
had the upper hand for most of the
game despite a shaky period early in
the first half. When they settled
into their game their support play
and score taking was excellent as
they moved the ball at speed and
when they do this they are both a
treat to watch and a handful for any
defence. To run up such a score away
to Bosco without four players who
had been regular starters all season
bears testament to the level of
skill available in the panel and
augers well for the future as the
replacements all played a
significant role in what was an
excellent overall team performance.
