Glasdrumman’s winning ways continue
Friday night saw the visit of Newry
Mitchels to the Quarter Road for
their first meeting in a couple of
seasons. Glasdrumman looked the
stronger side from the throw in and
were three points up within seven
minutes, all from the boot of
Raymond Magorrian. Cormac Murphy
added his name to the score sheet in
the eighth and tenth minutes with a
couple of points before Raymond
Magorrian further extended the
Glasdrumman lead with another point
two minutes later. Cormac Murphy
added a further three unanswered
points in the thirteenth, fifteenth
and twentieth minute before Mitchels
opened their account with their
first point in the twenty second
minute. Raymond Clarke restored the
Glasdrumman lead on twenty five
minutes but Mitchels hit back almost
immediately with their second point
of the half. Glasdrumman added
points from Raymond Clarke on twenty
seven minutes and Raymond Magorrian
two minutes later to leave the
halftime score Glasdrumman 0-12
Mitchels 0-2.
The first score of the second half
fell to Mitchels but Gary McGreevy
cancelled this out after eight
minutes with his first point of the
game. A minute later Glasdrumman
lost centre half back Brian Burns
following an accidental collision
with Daniel McCartan. Rather than
unsettling Glasdrumman this seemed
to drive them on and Cormac Murphy
had the ball in the back of the
Mitchels net within a minute to
maintain his goal a game average.
Four minutes later he added another
point to his tally before Raymond
Magorrian got in on the act with his
first point of the second half.
Mitchels hit back almost immediately
with a point but almost straight
from the kick out the ball fell to
Sean McDowell who hit the back of
the net for his first and
Glasdrumman’s second goal of the
game. Again Mitchels hit back with a
point but this time Declan Grant got
in on the act with a point in the
twenty second minute. In the twenty
sixth minute Colm Carr add a further
point to the Glasdrumman tally with
the final score of the game going
Mitchels way to leave the final
score Glasdrumman 2-17 Mitchels 0-6.

On Sunday the Glasdrumman team were
victorious in the South Down sevens
with an excellent display of
controlled sevens football,
especially in the final where they
overcame old rivals Tullylish. The
first half was keenly contested with
Raymond Magorrian opening the
scoring with a point. Tullylish
quickly levelled the score before
Pat Mallon score an excellent goal.
Cormac Murphy add another point
before Tullylish pulled themselves
right back into the match with a
goal. However the last score of the
half went Glasdrumman’s way when
Cormac Murphy pointed to leave the
half time score Glasdrumman 1-3
Tullylish 1-1. The second half was
totally dominated by Glasdrumman and
they further extended their lead
with points from Raymond Clarke, Pat
Mallon and Raymond Magorrian in the
opening minutes. Then in a two
minute spell of intense Glasdrumman
pressure Cormac Murphy hit two goals
and two points before Pat Mallon
finished the game with his second
goal to leave the final score
Glasdrumman 4-8 Tullylish 1-1.
