John Brennan
On Friday
night Glasdrumman were the visitors
to top four contenders Ballyholland
who were eager to avenge their
result in Glasdrumman earlier in the
season. Two points from Shane
Mulholland and Robbie Quinn opened
the scoring for Ballyholland but
Glasdrumman responded with a Cormac
Murphy point.
At
this early stage there was already a
scent of goals in the air. Young
Connaire Harrison, when clean
through, was most unfortunately
denied a goal chance by the
strangest of refereeing decisions.
Inspired by this let off
Ballyholland responded with points
from Paul Murphy and Ronan Murtagh
before Connaire Harrison pulled one
back for Glasdrumman in the twelfth
minute. A minute later the first
goal came when Ronan Murtagh found
the back of the Glasdrumman net.
Inspired by this Ballyholland moved
up a gear adding a further three
points to their tally with two from
John Barry and one from Ronan
Murtagh. The pressure on Glasdrumman
was further added to when Ronan
Murtagh’s fisted effort found the
Glasdrumman net. Although
Glasdrumman were to enjoy their best
period of the match in the closing
minutes of the half, striking four
points, two from Connaire Harrison
and one each from Cormac Murphy and
Raymond Clarke, to a solitary
response from John Barry, there was
still eight between them at halftime
with the score line Ballyholland 2-8
Glasdrumman 0-6.
Glasdrumman started the start the
second period a lot sharper and
Raymond Clarke opened the scoring
with a first minute point and again
they were denied a goal chance when
Mattie Shields was called upon to
make a great stop with the
goalkeeper beaten when the ball
seemed to stick in the mud inches
short of the Ballyholland line.
Inspired by this let off
Ballyholland effectively killed off
the game with points from Robbie
Quinn and Ronan Murtagh, a goal from
Tony Havern and four more unanswered
points, two from Murtagh and one
each from Paddy McAnulty and Murphy.
Although the game was out of their
reach Glasdrumman plugged away to
the end, and got the last three
scores of the game, one each from
Cormac Murphy, Connaire Harrison and
James McDowell to leave the final
score Ballyholland 3-14 Glasdrumman
0-10.
