Glasdrumman
Notes
Minors too strong for Annaclone
Wednesday night’s opposition at the
Quarter Road for the Glasdrumman
minor team were Annaclone. The
visitors were first to register with
a first minute point but this was
quickly cancelled when Darren Joyce
put the ball in the Annaclone net on
five minutes. This was quickly
followed by an Art McCartan point a
minute later. Annaclone pulled one
back in the tenth minute but again
Glasdrumman responded with a
Connaire Harrison point and a minute
later the same player had the ball
in the Annaclone net for
Glasdrumman’s second goal.
Glasdrumman seemed to take their
foot of the pedal allowing Annaclone
back into the game with three
unanswered points and a goal from a
penalty in a fifteenth minute spell.
Connaire Harrison pulled a point
back for Glasdrumman which was
cancelled by a quick point from
Annaclone before Paul Grant got his
name on the score sheet with the
last point of the half to leave the
halftime score Glasdrumman 2-04
Annaclone 1-06.
Connaire Harrison opened the scoring
in the second half with a second
minute point but Annaclone responded
with a point within a minute. Again
Connaire Harrison pointed to leave
two points between the teams with
four minutes on the clock. A minute
later a mistake in the Glasdrumman
defence allowed Annaclone in for a
goal and they added a point to lead
by two. Three unanswered points in
three minutes from Connaire Harrison
restored the Glasdrumman lead but it
was short lived as Annaclone fought
back with two points of their own to
go into a one point lead. A minute
later Glasdrumman were awarded a
penalty. Up stepped Connaire
Harrison only to see his shot
brilliantly stopped by the Annaclone
keeper but he made no mistake with
the rebound hitting the net for
Glasdrumman’s third goal. A minute
later Art McCartan hit over a long
range point. Sean Cunningham was
introduced for the injured Paul
Grant and he had the ball in the
Annaclone net with his first touch
of the game. A minute later Connaire
Harrison again hit the Annaclone net
with the last score of the game
coming from the boot of midfielder
Art McCartan to leave the final
score Glasdrumman 5-11 Annaclone
2-10.
This was a good all round
performance from the Glasdrumman
side who looked as if they were
going to overrun Annaclone in the
first ten minutes. For the remainder
of the first half they often played
second fiddle to Annaclone and were
lucky not to be behind at halftime.
The second half performance was a
lot better as they battled even when
they went behind and their fitness
told in the last ten minutes when
they totally dominated the game
scoring 3-02 without response.
