Glasdrumman Notes
Two more points for Glasdrumman
Minors against Newry Mitchels
On Monday
night Glasdrumman minors made the
journey to league leaders Newry
Mitchels hoping to add to their
points tally. The game was played in
atrocious under foot conditions
which Glasdrumman seemed to adapt to
quite quickly with Connaire Harrison
opening the score for Glasdrumman in
the first minute. Mitchels levelled
the game with a fourth minute point
before points apiece from Art
McCartan and Stefan McGuiness
restored the Glasdrumman lead.
Mitchels settled into a rhythm
having probably their best spell of
the match and they were rewarded
with five unanswered points in a
fourteen minute spell before
Connaire Harrison, complete with a
different pair of boots, knocked
over two points from frees to reduce
the Mitchels lead to a single point.
A minute the same player had the
ball in the Mitchel’s net before a
last minute Mitchels point left the
half time score Mitchels 0-7
Glasdrumman 1-5.
Mitchels first point of the second
half came on three minutes and a
minute later a mistake in the
Glasdrumman defence resulted in a
Mitchels goal. Again Connaire
Harrison pointed but the Mitchels
response was swift as they restored
their three point advantage with a
point from a free. Glasdrumman’s
backs were against the wall at this
stage but they came out fighting and
within nine minutes the game was all
square with a point from Art
McCartan and two from Connaire
Harrison. With time running out
Mitchels were awarded a twenty metre
free which looked as if it might
secure the points for them but it
curled wide at the last second. From
the kickout the ball ended up with
Connaire Harrison and he coolly took
his point to put Glasdrumman in the
driving seat. Glasdrumman won the
kickout and the ball ended with
substitute Paul Quinn and he made no
mistake planting the ball
confidently past the Mitchels keeper
to secure the points for Glasdrumman
with a final score of Mitchels 1-09
Glasdrumman 2-10.
This was a good determined
performance from Glasdrumman who
seemed to be better able to cope
with the slippery conditions than
Mitchels and who never lost their
self belief even when behind and
this now leaves them in a good
position to progress as the
championship starts. Man of the
match Andrew Doran.
