John Brennan
Glasdrumman retain their 100% home
record
Saul were the
visitors to the Quarter Road on
Friday night with Glasdrumman keen
to preserve their 100% home record.
Saul were first to register with a
first minute point but Glasdrumman
responded within a minute when
Connaire Harrison pointed. Saul went
two points ahead with scores in the
fourth and sixth minutes before
Connaire Harrison pulled one back
for Glasdrumman. Peter McKenna and
Connaire Harrison exchanged points
in the eighteenth and nineteenth
minutes before Saul added another
point to leave two points between
the sides. A minute later Pat Mallon
cut the Saul lead with a long range
point and this was quickly followed
by the decisive score of the match.
Gary McGreevy got on the end of a
long ball and when his attempt on
goal was blocked Connaire Harrison
was on hand to plant the rebound
into the Saul net to put Glasdrumman
into the lead for the first time in
the game. Peter McKenna pointed a
minute later for Saul but
Glasdrumman finished the half the
stronger with two Connaire Harrison
points to leave the half time score
Glasdrumman 1-6 Saul 0-6. Connaire
Harrison started the second half as
he had finished the first with two
more points to further extend the
Glasdrumman lead but Saul’s response
came with two more Peter McKenna
points on twelve and fourteen
minutes. Martin O’Neill got his name
on the scoreboard a minute later
when he pointed from a forty five
but Peter McKenna again pulled a
point back for Saul. With twenty one
minutes on the clock Connaire
Harrison again pointed. A minute
later Ronan McDowell was forced to
make a very important finger tip
save pushing a fierce shot from
Peter McKenna onto the crossbar.
Inspired by this Saul piled on the
pressure resulting in two points
within two minutes but the final
score was left to that man Harrison
when he pointed to leave the full
time score Glasdrumman 1-11 Saul
0-11.
This was a
good all round performance from a
Glasdrumman team short a number of
their more experienced and
influential players. The defence
generally played well absorbing a
lot of Saul pressure at times in the
game. Midfield won enough ball to
keep a steady supply to the forwards
who got through a lot of work with
Connaire Harrison in particular
having an outstanding game with a
personal tally of 1-9.
