SAVAL
TOO STRONG FOR GLASRUMMAN: Glasdrumman 1-3 Saval 0-13
SAVAL TOO STRONG FOR GLASRUMMAN:
Glasdrumman 1-3 Saval 0-13
Fridays
visitors to the Quarter Road were
table topping Saval who were in top
form.
Saval
got off to a flying start and were
eight points ahead after fifteen
minutes. Glasdrumman made a number of
tactical changes in this time which
did slow the rate of scores from Saval.
Raymond Magorrian scored Glasdrumman's
first point of the match in the twenty
fourth minute, by which time Saval had
scored eight. It could have been a lot
worse for Glasdrumman as Saval had at
least six wides from very scorable
positions. Three minutes later Darren
Joyce hit a sweet shot towards the top
right hand corner of the Saval goals,
but the keeper made a good save to
turn the ball around the post. Saval
scored another two points from free
kicks as half time approached to leave
the half time score Glasdrumman 0-1
Saval 0-10.
Glasdrumman came out for the second
half determined to turn the score
around and were very unlucky not to
have scored within the first five
minutes of the restart. However when
they did score in the thirty eighth
minute they were rewarded with a goal
from Cormac Murphy after a scramble
outside the square. With spirits
lifted, Connaire Harrison scored
another point a minute later to narrow
the gap to five points. At this point
Glasdrumman replaced Gary McGreevy
with Sean McVeigh. Glasdrumman pushed
forward looking for further scores but
the next score, a point, came from
Saval on forty five minutes.
Undeterred Glasdrumman kept the
pressure on and were rewarded with a
penalty after a foul on Raymond
Magorrian with ten minutes remaining.
Cormac Murphy struck a good penalty
but again the Saval keeper made a good
save to keep the ball out. Glasdrumman
sensed this wasn't going to be their
night when Saval struck a further
point with six minutes left despite
Connaire Harrison replying with his
second point from a free three minutes
later. Saval scored a final point in
added time to leave the final score
Glasdrumman 1-3 Saval 0-13.
Despite
the score Glasdrumman can take some
heart from this game. Saval certainly
had a good opening fifteen minutes but
with the tactical switches they were
restricted to only a further five
points for the next forty five minutes
of the game. If Glasdrumman had got
just a little more luck, the scoreline
may have been a bit different. All
loose ball seemed to fall to Saval
players and Glasdrumman did squander
some good scoring opportunities in the
first half, but this may have been
down to Glasdrumman confidences being
low after a difficult run of results.
If the team continues to show the same
spirit as in this match and with some
key players due back in the coming
weeks results will undoubtedly turn
again in Glasdrumman's favour.
