Glasdrumman lose out to Warrenpoint: Glasdrumman 1-6 Warrenpoint 2-12
Atticall was the setting for
this Division 2 relegation play-off
game between Glasdrumman and Warrenpoint
on Sunday afternoon..
Warrenpoint started the stronger
and were a goal and three points
ahead before Connaire Harrison
replied with Glasdrumman's first
point in the eleventh minute.
Warrenpoint scored their fourth
point in the fifteenth minute
but Glasdrumman came back strongly
with a point from Raymond Magorrian
followed almost immediately with
Connaire Harrison's second point
of the game. Glasdrumman were
now in a purple patch and Raymond
Magorrian brought the game level,
first with a well placed goal
in the twentieth minute followed
by his second point of the game
four minutes later. Warrenpoint
scored a fifth point with a minute
remaining in the half to put them
back in front. The final action
of the half saw Cormac Murphy
send over a superb point in the
third minute of injury time to
leave the half time scores level
at Glasdrumman 1-5 Warrenpoint
1-5.
Both teams came out for the second
half knowing that a good second
half performance could mean the
difference between playing in
either Division 2 or 3 next season.
Warrenpoint got the better of
the luck in the early part of
the second half and aided by some
'dubious' refereeing decisions
scored a further goal and four
points by the fiftieth minute
without reply to put them seven
points ahead. In the fifty fifth
minute Connaire Harrison scored
Glasdrumman's only point of the
second half from a free kick after
a foul on James McDowell, a free
kick being awarded with Connaire
Harrison through on goal. Despite
this score, Glasdrumman played
out the remainder of the game
knowing this was not to be their
day and Warrenpoint scored another
three points in the final minutes
to leave the final score Glasdrumman
1-6 Warrenpoint 2-12.
