DOWNPATRICK TOO STRONG FOR GLASDRUMMAN IN LEAGUE
Downpatrick 5-17 Glasdrumman
1-5
Glasdrumman hoped to gain some
confidence from this game heading
into the play-offs on the back
of some good results of late.
Both teams started reasonably
well with Downpatrick taking the
first point of the game and Raymond
Clarke replying for Glasdrumman
after five minutes. Downpatrick
however moved up a gear quickly
and scored a goal and a further
seven points before Glasdrumman
scored again, this time a goal
from Raymond Clarke in the twenty
seventh minute. Two good saves
from Ronan McDowell kept Glasdrumman
in the game up to this point.
Downpatrick's reply was swift,
and realistically killed the game
off as a contest, as they scored
a second goal and another point
before Connaire Harrison replied
with a point for Glasdrumman in
the final minute of the half.
The teams went in at half time
with the score Downpatrick 2-9
Glasdrumman 1-2.
Downpatrick started the second
half as they finished the first
and scored another point within
three minutes of the restart to
increase their lead to eleven
points. Connaire Harrison scored
his second point in the thirty
fifth minute from a free kick
but again Downpatrick replied
with another point almost immediately.
Downpatrick now had their tails
up and continued to increase the
pressure on the Glasdrumman defence.
They were duly rewarded with a
penalty in the fortieth minute.
Despite another great save by
Ronan McDowell from the penalty
the Downpatrick forwards were
quicker to respond to the rebound
and the ball was placed into the
net for a third goal. Downpatrick
took complete control of the game
from here on and scored fourth
goal and two further points in
the next five minutes. Raymond
Clarke scored his third point
of the game with fourteen minutes
remaining but a minute later Downpatrick
were awarded another penalty which
was slotted past Sean Cunningham.
Downpatrick scored another four
points and Connaire Harrison scored
a consolation point as the game
closed out with the final score
Downpatrick 5-17 Glasdrumman 1-5.
Not a good evening for Glasdrumman
but lets hope for better performances
with players returning from injury
going into the play-offs.
