A bouyant Glasdrumman team visited
St. Paul's on Friday night looking
to extend their good start to
the season.
However, they were hit with a
blitz from a determined St. Pauls
team who stormed into a five point
lead after ten minutes. Glasdrumman
gathered themselves, and a point
apiece from Connaire Harrison
and Cormac Murphy eased them into
the game. St. Paul's continued
to dominate the game and went
further ahead with a sixth point
with only seven points remaining
to half time. Despite playing
with the advantage of the wind
Glasdrumman were finding the going
tough playing against a quick
St. Pauls side but they managed
to force a free kick thirty yards
out which Cormac Murphy palced
between the posts to narrow the
gap again with five minutes remaining
in the half. St. Paul's apeared
to turn their attention to the
half time break allowing Pat Mallon
to put over another score before
a high ball into the area was
fisted over in added time for
the final score of the first half
to leave the half time score St.
Paul's 0-6 Glasdrumman 0-5.
Glasdrumman came out for the
second half as they had finished
the first and Connaire Harrison
levelled the scores on thirty
two minutes from a well taken
free kick. This only served to
awaken St. Paul's to the task
in hand and they repied almost
immediately with two points themselves
to put them ahead again. Connaire
Harrison replied with his third
point again from a free kick to
reduce the difference again to
only one point after thirty eight
minutes. There were no more scores
until St. Paul's scored their
ninth point ten minutes later
to again put two between the teams.
Connaire Harrison was the main
target man for Glasdrumman and
he replied with a brilliant point
from a tight angle on the right
to reduce the gap again to one.
But yet again St. Paul's replied
immediately with their tenth score
to increase the gap again to two
with ten minutes remaining. Although
the football was not pretty the
toing and froing of the game was
certainly keeping the attention
of the supporters of both teams
on the pitch.
With six minutes remaining Martin
O'Neill sent over a fantastic
point to reduce the deficit again
to one but the Glasrumman supporters
could not believe it when St.
Paul's went straight up the other
end for their final score and
again the difference was two.
Both teams gave their all and
with only two minutes remaining
on the clock, Martin O'Neill scored
again to leave one in it. Connaire
Harrison almost conjured a goal
out of nothing but was unlucky
to see the ball go narrowly wide.
With the game now in added time,
it looked as if St. Paul's had
the game won, but one last gasp
effort from Glasdrumman saw Declan
Grant put over the final point
to leave the final score St. Paul's
0-11 Glasdrumman 0-11.
Both teams deserve praise for
their effort throughout the game
but again Glasdrumman showed grit
and determination in fighting
for the result to maintain momentum
and also their unbeaten start
to the season.
