GLASDRUMMAN BLITZ MITCHELLS
Mitchells 0-8 Glasdrumman 3-16
Glasdrumman visited Mitchells
on Friday evening on the back
of a good run of results looking
to extend their good form.
Glasrumman certainly made their
intentions known from the start
as they sprinted into a three
point lead within seven minutes,
with points apiece from Conaire
Harrison, Darren Joyce and a free
kick from the boot of Mark Trimble.
Mark Trimble pointed again which
was quickly followed by Martin
O'Neill's opening point of the
game on ten minutes to increase
Glasdrumman's lead to five. However,
Mitchells weren't about to roll
over and they scored two points
within a minute to reduce the
deficit to three after twelve
minutes. Glasdrumman's reply was
incisive and direct, as a long
ball towards the square was deftly
touched on by Paul Grant into
the path of Connaire Harrison
who smashed the ball past Ciaran
Poland in the Mitchell's goals
for the opening goal of the game.
The goal raised Glasdrumman's
game and they now were controlling
play all over the pitch. Connaire
Harrison scored his second point
from a free kick after seventeen
minutes and although Mitchells
scored their third point a minute
later, Raymond Magorrian rounded
off a very good first half for
Glasdrumman with two well taken
points to leave the half time
score Mitchells 0-3 Glasdrumman
1-8.
Shaun Brennan had replaced Raymond
Clarke just before half time and
he put over a point within a minute
of the restart for Glasdrumman
to increase their lead to nine
points. Richard Troope replied
immediately with a pointed free
for Mitchells, but they just couldn't
stay with Glasdrumman as further
points apiece from Raymond Magorrian,
Sean McDowell and another from
a free by Mark Trimble blasted
them into an eleven point lead
with more than twenty minutes
remaining. Two points for Mitchells,
one each for Ryan Devlin and Damien
Kearney brought some hope but
a point from Connaire Harrison
and two from Raymond Magorrian
kept Glasdrumman well in front
with ten minutes to go. Mitchells
scored a seventh point before
a three minute blitz of scores
by Glasdrumman, a much deserved
goal from Paul Grant, a point
from Connaire Harrison and a third
goal from impact sub Conor Clerkin,
put the game beyond conclusion.
The final score of the game came
from the boot of Mitchell's Martin
O'Boyle to leave the final score
Mitchells 0-8 Glasdrumman 3-16.
A very good result for Glasdrumman
on the night with a well rounded
performance from the team as a
whole. The defence was superbly
marshalled by Pat Mallon who was
well supported in the full back
line by Colum Carr and in particular
Christopher Cassidy. Art McCartan
had an outstanding game at centre
half back and his runs from deep
caused Mitchells problems throughout
the game. Martin O'Neill and Mark
Trimble both also had a good game,
limiting Mitchells to long range
shots and taking their scores
well when called upon. The midfield
pairing of Colm Gribben and Declan
Grant won the bigger percentage
of ball in the centre as they
supported both defence and attack
well. Sean McDowell, Raymond Clarke
and Darren Joyce picked up practically
all of the loose ball in the half
forward area as they pushed the
attack forward. Sean, Darren and
substitute Shaun Brennan were
rewarded justly with scores each
at important times of the game.
Raymond Clarke was unlucky to
pick up a shoulder injury just
before half time as he also was
playing well up to then. The full
forward line of Raymond Magorrian,
Paul Grant and Connaire Harrison
caused constant problems to the
Mitchells full back line as they
all got on the score sheet along
with replacement Conor Clerkin
who made an almost instant imapct
when introduced. Gary Trimble
and Sean McVeigh also contributed
well to this important victory
when they came on.
