This first round Intermediate
Championship game played at Rostrevor
turned out to be more one sided
than either side could have imagined.
St. John Bosco however got the
first score of the game on six
minutes with a pointed forty five
from Declan Carville. That was
to be Bosco's only score for the
next fifteen minutes as Glasdrumman
took control. Colm Gribben's point
in the ninth minute was followed
immediately with a goal from Cormac
Murphy, who tucked the ball into
the bottom right hand corner of
the Bosco net following a great
run. Cormac Murphy scored a further
two points within the next five
minutes to put Glasdrumman five
points ahead with only a quarter
of the game gone. Connaire Harrison
got his first score of the game
when he fisted over following
a good run in on goal as Bosco
defenders closed in on him. Declan
Carville scored Bosco's second
point with eight minutes to half
time, leaving Cormac Murphy to
round off the first half with
another point to leave the half
time score Glasdrumman 1-5 St.
John Bosco 0-2.
Clearly Bosco had to comne up
with something different from
the start of the second half but
it was Glasdrumman who came out
with all guns blazing. Connaire
Harrison scored his second point
of the game within five minutes
of the restart and following great
work from the same player Paul
Grant had a simple tap in for
a goal only a minute later. Connaire
Harrison scored another point
to put Glasdrumman eleven points
ahead and out of sight with still
more than twenty minutes remaining.
Neil Tumilty scored Bosco's third
point on forty minutes, followed
by points apiece from Martin O'Neill
and Raymond Magorrian for Glasdrumman.
Glasdrumman kept pressing for
more and although Neil Tumilty
added a fourth point for Bosco
midway through the half, James
McDowell split the Bosco defence
with a superb pass to Connaire
Harrison who duly finished the
move by putting the ball into
the Bosco net. Glasdrumman were
not finished with the punishment
and Sean McDowell, Colm Gribben
and Paul Grant added points to
increase Glasdrumman's lead. Glasdrumman
clearly took their foot of the
pedal in the final five minutes
and their final point was added
by Sean McDowell before substitute
Keith McCrink added three consolation
points for Bosco. Bosco were also
awarded a consolation penalty
with three minutes remaining but
with Sean Cunningham choosing
the right side the ball went wide
to round off a very disappointing
night for Bosco. The final whistle
went to leave the final score
Glasdrumman 3-14 St John Bosco
0-7.
Glasdrumman will obviously be
very pleased with a superb all
round team display and will be
looking forward to the Quarter
Finals with the anticipation of
a good run in the Intermediate
Championship.
