Drumgath visited the Quarter
Road last Friday night. The first
half belonged to Glasdrumman who
raced into a five point lead by
half time, aided by points from
Cormac Muphy (0-3), Connaire Harrison
(0-2), Martin O'Neill (0-1) and
Raymond Magorrian (0-1), with
the scores Glasdrumman 0-7 Drumgath
0-2.
Glasdrumman kept the presure on
from the throw in for the second
half and were rewarded with a
goal from Connaire Harrison within
a minute. Drumgath replied with
a pointed free for their first
score of the second half after
thirty four minutes, however this
only caused Glasdrumman to again
raise their game and they played
some superb football on their
way to amassing a further seven
points over the next fifteen minutes,
two from Conaire Harrison and
one each from Cormac Murphy, Colum
Carr, Raymond Clarke, Declan Grant
and Martin O'Neill, to effectively
kill the game off with ten minutes
remaining. Drumgath fought hard
to stem the tide and eventually
were rewarded with two points
only for Darren Joyce to put the
icing on the cake for Glasdrumman,
finishing off a well worked move
by thrashing the ball past the
Drumgath goalkeeper for a second
goal. Drumgath scored a consolation
point in the last minute to leave
the final score Glasdrumman 2-14
Drumgath 0-6.
This was a super performance from
Glasdrumman against one of their
main rivals for promotion on a
greasy pitch. Ronan McDowell had
another good game commanding his
area well. He received good cover
from the full back line of Colum
Carr, Pat Mallon and Christopher
Cassidy. The half back line of
Martin O'Neill, Art McCartan and
Mark Trimble worked hard throughout,
picking up a lot of loose ball.
The defence had a particularly
good game as a whole, closing
out Drumgath well throughout the
game and limiting Drumgath to
only three scores from open play.
Midfielders Colm Gribben and Declan
Grant fought hard for possession
in all areas and supported both
defence and attack well. The half
forward line of Sean McDowell,
Raymond Clarke and James McDowell
played with determination securing
a good supply of ball to the full
forward line. The full forwards
Raymond Magorrian, Cormac Murphy
and Connaire Harrison had another
strong game and linked well with
the half foward line and midfield
and taking important scores when
called upon. Substitutes Darren
Joyce and Kevin Burns also played
their part when called upon in
what was a strong team performance.
