GLASDRUMMAN WIN
BUT ONLY JUST
Glasdrumman 3-13 Saul 2-13
Glasdrumman hosted Saul on Thursday
evening looking to keep the pressure
on table topping Ardglass.
Saul started the quicker and scored
first through a Ryan Brown point
within two minutes. Raymond Clarke
levelled but Callum Laverty put
Saul back in front. Points from
Connaire Harrison and Raymond
Magorrian eased Glasdrumman ahead
before Saul replied with points
apiece from Michael Vint and Nathan
Curran. Glasdrumman began to get
up a head of steam and a goal
from Connaire Harrison and point
from Colm Gribben eased Glasdrumman
three points ahead midway through
the half. two points from Christopher
Laverty kept Saul in touch but
scores from Raymond Clarke and
Cormac Murphy kept the difference
at three points. Moving into the
final minute of the half a Colum
Carr shot was rather fortunately
deflected into the roof of the
Saul net. Saul quickly gathered
themselves and managed a further
point from Conor Swail before
the whistle went to leave the
scores at half time Glasdrumman
2-6 Saul 0-7.
Connaire Harrison scored a point
almost immediately from the throw
in but Saul quickly followed that
up with three points from Callum
Laverty to reduce the deficit
to only three with twenty minutes
still to play. A well taken goal
by Darren Joyce increased Glasdrumman's
lead again to six but yet again
Saul came back and their reward
was an eleventh point and a goal
to again reduce the deficit to
two points. Calmness was required
on the Glasdrumman side and two
pointed free kicks from Cormac
Murphy followed immediately by
two further points from Connaire
Harrison provided reassurance
to again increase their lead to
six with only ten minutes remaining.
However, Saul again came back
and two points from Christopher
Laverty followed by a goal left
only one point between the teams.
Glasdrumman nerves held though
and points from Connaire Harrison
and Raymond Clarke in the final
minutes left the final score Glasdrumman
3-13 Saul 2-13.
This was a hard fought victory
for Glasdrumman on a greasyy pitch.
Ronan McDowell had another good
game commanding his area well
and was unfortunate with both
Saul goals. He received good cover
from the full back line of Ryan
Doran, Pat Mallon and Martin O'Neill.
The half back line of Colum Carr,
Art McCartan and Mark Trimble
worked hard throughout, making
good runs forward in support of
the forward line. Midfielders
Declan Grant and Colm Gribben
fought hard for possession in
all areas of the field. The half
forward line of James McDowell,
Raymond Clarke and Raymond Magorrian
played with determination and
caused the Saul backs a lot of
problems with their constant running
off and on the ball.. The full
forwards Cormac Murphy, Connaire
Harrison and Darren Joyce linked
well with the half foward line
and midfield, taking important
scores at vital times of the game.
Substitute Sean McDowell also
his part when called upon in what
was a gritty performance from
the team.
