GLASDRUMMAN
CONTINUE GOOD START TO SEASON
Carryduff 0-5 Glasdrumman 0-9
Glasdrumman visited Carryduff on
Sunday for their first away fixture
of the season expecting another
tough game.
Despite it being Carryduff's first
competitive game of the year, they
came out of the blocks with all
guns blazing. Playing with a strong
wind Carryduff were three points
ahead within six minutes of the
throw in. Glasdrumman however did
steady themselves, winning some
high balls in the centre and pushing
forward through Pat Mallon, Colm
Gribben, James McDowell and Raymond
Magorrian. They were eventually
rewarded with their first point
from Connaire Harrison on twelve
minutes, followed three minutes
later with a pointed free kick from
Cormac Murphy reducing the deficit
to one. Carryduff got themselves
back on top in the game, scoring
a fourth point on twenty minutes
but were unable to take a number
of good scoring opportunities to
increase their lead. Glasdrumman
took advanage and added a third
point with five minutes remaining
in the half to which Carryduff had
no reply, leaving the half time
score Carryduff 0-4 Glasdrumman
0-3, with all to play for in the
second half.
Glasdrumman took advantage of the
strong wind at the start of the
second half and scored three points,
two from Cormac Murphy and the third
from Connaire Harrison, within five
minutes of the restart to put them
two ahead. The strong wind and sticky
pitch did not allow for much skilfull
football but the commitment of both
teams was visible to all. The next
score, a point, came from Carryduff
on forty one minutes to keep both
sets of supporters on tenter hooks.
Carryduff pushed on and were on
top again, and in a fifteen minute
period came close to goals twice,
one effort rebounding off the post
to safety and the second effort
blazed wide, before Frank O'Neill
made a good block to deny an equalising
point. More importantly for Glasdrumman,
Carryduff did not add any scores
in this period and it was left for
Connaire Harrison to ease the pressure
with another point to increase Glasdrumman's
lead to two with two minutes remaining.
Raymond Magorrian and Martin O'Neill
added points apiece for Glasdrumman
in injury time to leave the final
score Carryduff 0-5 Glasdrumman
0-9.
A second win for Glasdrumman, who
showed a great deal of grit and
determination on a heavy pitch to
come out on top.
