ACFL Div 3: Glasdrumman 3-12
Teconnaught 0-7
Teconnaught visited the Quarter
Road on Sunday on the back of
their first win of the season
over Ardglass looking to halt
Glasdrumman's good run.
Teconnaught started well on a
heavy pitch and were awarded a
free kick in the second minute
from which they scored the first
point of the game. Cormac Murphy
levelled the game with a pointed
free after five minutes to ease
the home side into the game, but
Teconnaught replied with another
two points to put them ahead.
Connaire Harrison scored a second
point for Glasdrumman on ten minutes,
however Teconnaught continued
with a further two points to leave
them three points to the good
with less than twenty on the clock.
Glasdrumman were finding the going
tough on the heavy pitch and playing
into the breeze so a well taken
point from the boot of James McDowell
was welcome to narrow the gap.
This appeared to lift Glasdrumman
and with three minutes remaining
in the half Raymond Clarke was
in the right place at the right
time to smash the ball into the
Teconnaught net. Cormac Murphy
put over another free kick to
end the half on a high for the
home team and leave the half time
score Glasdrumman 1-4 Teconnaught
0-5.
Glasdrumman continued were they
left off for the second half and
stormed into a commanding lead
with points each from Connaire
Harrison, Raymond Clarke and Raymond
Magorrian and a well taken goal
from Colm Gribben. Teconnaught
replied with their first point
of the second half on forty minutes
to keep them in touch but Connaire
Harrison took advantage of a defensive
mistake to side foot the ball
into the Teconnaught net to put
the game beyond doubt on forty
two minutes.Connaire Harrison
followed this up with another
point before Teconnaught scored
their final point of the game
with eight minutes to play. The
game as a contest petered out
with Glasdrumman adding points
from James McDowell, two more
from Connaire Harrison and a final
score from Cormac Murphy to leave
the final score Glasdrumman 3-12
Teconnaught 0-7.
This was another solid performance
from Glasdrumman on a very heavy
pitch. Ronan McDowell had another
good game commanding his area
well and making a couple of good
saves when called upon. He received
good cover from the full back
line of Ryan Doran, Brian Burns
and Mark Trimble. The half back
line of Martin O'Neill, Kevin
Burns and Colm Carr worked hard
throughout, picking up a lot of
loose ball and generally keeping
the Teconnaught forwards quiet,
particularly in the second half..
Midfielders Pat Mallon and Colm
Gribben fought hard for possession
in all areas of the field, supporting
both defense and attack well.
The half forward line of James
McDowell, Raymond Clarke and Raymond
Magorrian played with determination
securing a good supply of ball
to the full forward line. The
full forwards Cormac Murphy, Sean
McDowell and Connaire Harrison
had another strong game, linking
well with the half foward line
and midfield and taking important
scores at vital times of the game.
Substitutes Daniel McCartan, Mark
Grant, Art McCartan, Shaun Brennan
and Darren Joyce also played strong
roles when called upon in what
was a strong performance from
the team.
