GLASDRUMMAN WIN OVER SAUL
Saul 0-6 Glasdrumman 2-12
Glasdrumman visited Saul on Easter
Monday hoping to continue a good
start to the season.
Saul started well and making good
use of the wind in their favour
were a point ahead within a minute
of the throw in. Glasdrumman didn't
panic and came back with two points,
one each from Connaire Harrison
and Raymon Magorrian, within eight
minutes. Saul replied immediately
with a second point followed by
their third from a free kick on
eleven minutes to put them back
in front. Raymond Magorrian replied
with his second point for Glasdrumman
to level the game again before
Saul pressed Glasdrumman into
conceding a number of free kicks
of which they pointed three to
leave the difference now three
points in Saul's favour. Glasdrumman
showed some resolve to hold Saul's
tally to six points and Connaire
Harrison put over two free kicks
into the wind in injury time to
leave the half time score Saul
0-6 Glasdrumman 0-5.
Glasdrumman kept up their good
finish to the first half with
another two points from free kicks,
one each from Cormac Murphy and
Connaire Harrison, before Connaire
Harrison scored the first goal
of the game to put Glasdrumman
four points ahead after thirty
five minutes. Saul replied with
a goal effort which was saved
comfortably by Ronan McDowell.
The game went into a scrappy ten
minute period of play before Connaire
Harrison again had the ball in
the back of the Saul net on forty
five minutes. Glasdrumman then
stepped up a gear and scored a
further four points, two each
from Cormac Murphy and Sean McDowell,
to put the game out of reach with
ten minutes still to play. Cormac
Murphy added the final point in
the closing minute to leave the
final score Saul 0-6 Glasrumman
2-12.
A third win on the trot for Glasdrumman,
who showed a lot of resolve in
the first half to hold Saul to
a point and then to keep Saul
scoreless in the second half.
Ronan McDowell again did well
between the posts. The full back
line of Ryan Doran, Brian Burns
and Francis O'Neill closed the
Saul forward line quickly when
required. The half back line of
Martin O'Neill, Kevin Burns and
Mark Trimble worked hard throughout,
limiting the chances of scores
from open play. Midfielders Pat
Mallon and Colm Gribben supported
both the back and forward lines
well. The half forward line of
James McDowell, Raymond Clarke
and Raymond Magorrian played with
determination and guile, feeding
good balls to the full forward
line. The full forward line of
Cormac Murphy, Sean McDowell and
Connaire Harrison again had a
strong game, linking well with
the half foward line. Substitute
Declan Grant also played his part
when called upon in a good team
performance.
