Glasdrumman Notes 13th May 2008
GLASDRUMMAN RETURN TO WINNING WAYS - Glasdrumman 2-15 Mitchells 0-6
Glasdrumman hosted
Mitchells on Friday evening looking
to put last weeks result at Drumgath
behind them.
It was Glasdrumman who started the
better and Connaire Harrison and Cormac
Murphy had them two up within five
minutes. Glasdrumman should have been
further ahead but wasted chances allowed
Mitchells to keep in touch and points
apiece from Richard Troop and Stephen
Poacher had Mitchells level again
after ten minutes. Points from Raymond
Magorrian and Connaire Harrison again
increased the lead for Glasdrumman
but Mitchells dug deep and replied
with a point from Sean Cooney to stay
in touch. Only after Connaire Harrison's
third point of the game on twenty
minutes did Glasdrumman manage to
put daylight between themselves and
their opponents. Cormac Murphy and
Connaire Harrison struck over free
kicks to increase Glasdrumman's lead
to four before Mitchells were awarded
a penalty with only a minute to half
time. Glasdrumman's Ronan McDowell
anticipated the penalty well and threw
himself to his left to superbly tip
Stephen Poacher's kick around the
post. With this let off Glasdrumman's
Connaire Harrison scored the final
point of the half to leave the half
time score Glasdrumman 0-8 Mitchells
0-3.
Mitchells scored the first point of
the second half fom Eamon Pollock
within two minutes of the throw in
to remind Glasdrumman there remained
a game to be won. Glasdrumman's reply
was direct and basically killed the
game off with twenty minutes remaining.
Connaire Harrison scored his fifth
point of the game, followed closely
by a point from influential captain
Pat Mallon before Connaire Harrison
had the ball in Mitchells net twice
in two minutes. Mitchells didn't allow
their heads to drop and replied with
their fifth point from Sean Cooney,
however Glasdrumman were not about
to let them back into the game in
any way. Further points from James
McDowell and Cormac Murphy increased
Glasdrumman's lead again before Stephen
Poacher scored Mitchells final point
from a free kick with five minutes
remaining. Glasdrumman were still
not finished for the evening and a
well deserved point from Raymond Magorrian
and two from Eamon Donnegan completed
the scoring. Ronan McDowell was called
upon again to make another fine save
to deny Mitchells a consolation goal
before the whistle went for the end
of the game leaving the final score
Glasdrumman 2-15 Mitchells 0-6.
A good result for Glasdrumman who
now have six wins from eight games.
The whole team performed well on the
evening but mention must be made of
Raymond Magorrian's constant running
off the ball and support of both attack
and defence, Pat Mallon's influence
in midfield, Ronan McDowell's penalty
save at a vital stage and off course
the prolific scoring of Connaire Harrison
made possible by the support of the
entire team.
