Glasdrumman 0-9 Bredagh 0-4
Bredagh were the visitors to the
Quarter Road last Thursday evening
hopeful of taking something from
a tough game on paper.
It certainly wasn't an ideal night
for football but the show must go
on. Glasrumman began the game staedy
enough and were rewarded with three
points, two from James McDowell
and one from Connaire Harrison,
without reply to lead by three after
ten minutes. Bredagh's first point
came from the boot of Fergus Coyle
in the eleventh minute to narrow
the gap. Although the football wasn't
pretty on a very greasy surface,
Glasdrumman were showing the greater
resolve when it mattered. Two pointed
fifties from Cormac Murphy increased
Glasdrumman's lead to four with
ten minutes remaining to half time.
Bredagh were certainly putting up
a good fight but their inability
to take their scores was further
punished when points apiece from
Raymond Clarke and Connaire Harrison
proved to the final scores of the
first half, leaving the half time
score Glasdrumman 0-7 Bredagh 0-1.
Despite the difference in scores,
it was all still to fight for in
the second half. Bredagh showed
some promise early in the half but
the Glasdrumman held strong and
a further two points from Connaire
Harrison increased Glasdrumman's
lead to eight with twenty minutes
still remaining. Two pointed free
kicks from Enda Gormley narrowed
the scores again, giving Bredagh
some hope, before Connaire Harrison
raced through on goal only to see
his shot rebound off the post to
safety. A scrappy last five minutes
ensued with the final score coming
again from a free kick by Bredagh's
Enda Gormley, leaving the final
score Glasdrumman 0-9 Bredagh 0-4.
Not a good night for football but
a good result for Glasdrumman in
the end, who fully deserved the
win for their determination and
grit throughout.
