Glasdrumman were the visitors
to Rathfriland on Friday night
for this table top clash with
both teams looking for vital points
in their promotion push.
Glasdrumman started well and
were ahead through a point from
Pat Mallon within the first minute.
Not to be outdone, Drumgath replied
immediately and scored a second
from Mark Brannigan two minutes
later to take the lead. With such
a quick start to the game it was
surprising the next score took
a further fifteen minutes to come,
this time an equalising point
from Connaire Harrison for Glasdrumman.
This score seemed to stir Drumgath
to life and in the space of six
minutes Drumgath scored two goals,
one each from Jackie Lynch and
Micheal Quinn, and two points,
one each from Jackie Lynch and Mark
Downey, to put the home team eight
points ahead with four minutes
remaining in the half. Glasdrumman
responded well to the set back
and a point from James McDowell
helped settle their nerves before
Glasdrumman were awarded a penalty
for a foul on Connaire Harrison
in the final minute of the half.
Cormac Murphy calmly stepped up
to send the Drumgath goalkeeper
the wrong way and place the ball
into the net. Glasdrumman however
allowed Drumgath one more score
in injury time, Mark Connolly
stroking over a free kick to leave
the half time score Drumgath 2-5
Glasdrumman 1-3.
Drumgath took up were they left
off for the second half and Jackie
Lynch put over a point almost
from the throw in to increase
Drumgath's lead to six points.
Glasdrumman however began to get
on top in midfield and Connaire
Harrison put over a free kick
to bring the deficit back to five.
James McDowell sent over another
point ten minutes later to kickstart
Glasdrumman's strongest period
of the game. Barry Connell in
the Drumgath goals was having
a magnificent game much to the
dismay of the Glasdrumman support.
Having made a fine point blank
save in the first half he continued
to frustrate Glasdrumman with
two further fine saves in the
second half before Cormac Murphy
decided to put the ball over the
bar where the goalkeeper couldn't
get to it. Connaire Harrison added
a further point to reduce the
deficit to two with ten minutes
remaining. Connaire Harrison again
pushed through on goal only to
see his fisted attempt for a point
come back off the bar. Cormac
Murphy brought the difference
to one with another point with
still seven points remaining,
but despite this Gladrumman just
couldn't force over an equalising
score, and Drumgath came up the
field for the game's final score
with a point from Mark Connolly
with five minutes remaining. Drumgath
played possession football for
the remainder of the game but
there was still time for further
excitement with Glasdrumman calls
for a penalty for a foul on Raymond
Magorrian in the area going unheard.
The whistle went for the end of
the game, leaving the final score
Drumgath 2-7 Glasdrumman 1-8.
