St. Paul's visited the Quarter
Road on Saturday knowing a win
would leave them safely out of
the relegation play-offs. Unfortunately
for them they met a Glasdrumman
side bristling with confidence
after a strong run of games.
Glasdrumman were quick off the
mark and were two points ahead
within three minutes of the throw
in through points from Connaire
Harrison and Cormac Murphy. St.
Paul's replied with a point and
indeed should have drawn level
only for their shooting to let
them down. Connaire Harrison increased
Glasdrumman's lead again with
a point from a free kick on ten
minutes. St. Paul's replied with
their second point within a minute
but Cormac scored two points in
quick succession followed by Connaire
Harrison's third point of the
game to increase Glasdrumman's
lead to four points with ten minutes
remaining to half time. Raymond
Magorrian then more or less put
the game beyond St. Paul's with
two well taken goals in four minutes.
St. Paul's did reply before half
time only to see Cormac Murphy
slot over his fourth point of
the game to leave the half time
score Glasdrumman 2-7 St. Paul's
0-3.
To make a game of it St. Paul's
had to rack up some quick scores
in the second half, but Glasdrumman
were not about to slip up and
two points from Cormac Murphy
split by a single point from St.
Paul's cemented their lead. Connaire
Harrison then scored a further
four unanswered points, three
from frees, before rounding off
a very slick move by slipping
the ball under the St. Paul's
goalkeeper into the net for a
goal. Darren Joyce finished off
the scoring with a brace of points
in the remaining few minutes to
close off on a job well done and
leave the final score Glasdrumman
3-15 St. Paul's 0-4.
A complete performance from Glasdrumman
from defence through to attack.
Ronan McDowell was seldom threatened
in goal but marshalled the full
back line well when necessary.
The full back line of Ryan Doran,
Pat Mallon and Francis O'Neill
kept the St. Paul's forwards under
wraps for the whole game. The
half back line of Martin O'Neill,
Brian Burns and Mark Trimble scrapped
for every loose ball and supported
well the midfield pairing of Colm
Gribben and Art McCartan who in
turn both had good games supporting
the forward line. The half forwards
Cormac Murphy, Raymond Clarke
and Colum Carr also fought hard
for possession around the middle
of the park keeping the St. Paul'
back line busy with supporting
runs. The full forward line of
Raymond Magorrian, Darren Joyce
and Connaire Harrison finished
off each move with confidence
taking their scores with assured
accuracy. Substitutes Shaun Brennan,
Kevin Burns, Daniel McCartan and
Declan Grant also contributed
to this performance with strong
possession and good running causing
St. Paul's constant problems.
