GLASDRUMMAN CONTINUE ON TOP FORM
Glasdrumman 1-11 Bredagh 0-4
It was a wet and windy Ballykinler
that was the venue for the first
Division 3 promotion play-off
game.
Bredagh set their stall out first
and went ahead with a point within
a minute of the throw in from
a free kick by Bryan Rice. Bredagh
had further chances which were
not taken to extend their lead
before Colum Carr levelled, taking
his chance well. A frenetic ten
minutes passed during which Bredagh
had the better of the exchanges,
without the score changing, before
Bredagh went ahead again with
points apiece from John McKenna
and Henry Deazley midway through
the half. Glasdrumman dug deep
and James McDowell put over a
point to close the gap to one.
John McKenna increased Bredagh's
lead again to two with seven minutes
to half time and at this stage
they could have believed they
would go in at half time in front.
But two points from Cormac Murphy,
one a free kick, in the final
minutes levelled the scores and
sent the teams in at half time
with the score Glasdrumman 0-4
Bredagh 0-4.
The second half certainly started
with a bang, with Raymond Clarke
firing the ball into the Bredagh
goals within a minute of the restart
after a well worked move through
Cormac Murphy and Connaire Harrison.
The score seemed to unsettle Bredagh
a little as they continued to
be unable to take any chances
coming their way. Glasdrumman
increased their lead midway through
the half with a fisted point from
Connaire Harrison which was followed
moments later with two points
in two minutes from Cormac Murphy.
With a six point lead heading
into the final ten minutes of
the game, Glasdrumman gradually
closed the game out with four
unanswered points shared by Connaire
Harrison and Cormac Murphy.
Not pretty game of football but
the determination of both teams
shone throughout, with Glasdrumman's
second half performance, in which
they showed better ability to
take their scores when given the
opportunity and showing great
tenacity in defence to keep Bredagh
scoreless, securing the result.
A great result and team performance
for the Mourne team.
