Glasdrumman Notes 15th Sept 2008

GLASDRUMMAN GAC NOTES

1 The Seniors lost out to a very strong Annaclone team on Saturday's Intermediate Championship Semi-Final in Newcastle. The lads didn't go out without a fight and had closed down what was at one point a seven point deficit to within a single point in added time, only to finally lose by two. With a little more luck it could have been a different score line but at least the squad can now concentrate on the top of Division 3. Please keep an eye on the press for Senior fixtures this week.
2 The Reserves were unlucky to lose out to Atticall on Sunday evening away from home. In what was their final game of the season, the team produced one of their best displays of the year to go down narrowly by two points.
3 Congratulations to the Minor squad and management on winning South Down Division 3.
4 The U-14 tournament in Tullylish has been put back to Saturday 4th October, more details at training, training continues on Mondays and Thursdays at 7.00pm.
5 On Sunday the U-12s had a well deserved home victory over St. Michael's. Both teams held their own for the first ten minutes after which Glasdrumman settled into the game better, taking some fine scores in the process. Scorers were Gerard McDowell (2-3), Ronan Grant (1-2), Ciaran Trimble (1-1), Orlaith Smith (1-0), Connor Cunningham (0-3) and Sinead Grant (0-1). The entire squad played well throughout and defended well against a tough St. Michael's team, well done also to James Cunningham, Martin McVeigh, Dean Murray, Niall Rooney, Sarah Cunningham, Barry Beeks, James McDowell, Shauneen McVeigh, Amy Marks, Cailum McGrath and Ryan McAstocker. The U-12s play this Sunday, 21st September, away to Shamrocks B, throw in at 11.00am.
6 The U-8s also had a busy weekend, with a tournament in Rostrevor on Saturday. The squad had a good tournament, winning through to the Semi-Final where they were unfortunate to lose out to Teconnaught. Well done to Matthew Brennan, Jordan Lavery, John Lavery, Caoilan O'Hare, Orlaigh Smith, Katy Smith, Kerry Grant, Martin Stevenson, Paudraig Stevenson, Callum Stevenson, Jonathan McVeigh, Owen McVeigh, Aiden McVeigh, Sean Kelly, Daniel Magee, Nathan Mills and Cormac McCombe. U-8 training continues at the Primary School pitch each Sunday at 11.00am.
7 Best wishes and a speedy recoveries to Sean McDowell, who broke his collar bone during Saturday's Intermediate Championship Semi-Final, and U-14 player, Patrick Kelly, who broke his arm at the weekend. Thanks to Patrick Trimble, Christine Burns and Paul McDowell for their swift and professional assistance with Sean's injury on Saturday.
