THE Kilclief players lifted their
game in the second half to come out on top in this
tough relegation battle at Teconnaught.
It took a determined effort to overcome
a resilient Carryduff team to ensure survival for
another year in Division Two.
With Aidan McGirr, Adrian Scullion
and Brian McCreanor playing well out around the middle
Carryduff enjoyed a slight advantage in the first
half.
Shane O'Neill converted three frees
while Michael Polly slotted two over for Kilclief.
Kilclief started the second half
trailing 0-3 to 0-6 and obviously knew that more was
required of them. Mark Polly's brilliant opening score
won the fillip they needed.
The introduction of Rory Sharvin
at full forward was the key switch of the game. Rory
created significant problems for Rory Collins and
company at the back and Kieran Polly became more assertive,
coming through from midfield.
Slowly Kilclief impressed themselves
on the game and the Carryduff backs were forced to
concede frees which Ciaran Sloan punished with deadly
accuracy.
It was Sloan's frees that eventually won the match.
Kilclief supporters were on tenterhooks until the
final whistle as their team only went in front in
the dying minutes.
Gary Cull, Paul Watterson, Phelim
Sharvin and the three Polly brothers contributed most
to this important result for Kilclief.
Now they can look forward to hectic
local derbies with Saul, Loughinisland and Downpatrick
next year. Carryduff were gallant losers and had exceptional
performances from Rory Collins, Aidan McGirr, Adrian
Scullion, Darren Price and Phelim Henry.

Polly 0-2.
Carryduff scorers: S O'Neill 0-4, A McGirr, A Scullion,
